What about a decent Tremoverb instead? Does the Rev F really sound that different? I can't imagine playing $5K+ for a 30-year-old Rectifier when a Tremoverb or Rectoverb goes for $800 - $1500.
The F and earlier have more of a '3D' and 'rich' tone thing going that the Gs I've owned didn't have. T verbs came along with the Gs in 94(although I've heard there are a few that came at the end of the F series).
Comparing an F triple directly to a G triple, the difference is noticeable.

But, I'd just get a new RI as Jeremy stated.

That’s a very good way to put it. That’s about difference I get from the two running them out a Mesa Cab Full Stack. Thanks for the input!

I've always felt like Duals & Triples did metal better than ToVs, Road Kings etc.. Those having a tendency to be darker & ... smoother? Probably better for rock/ alternative.

That said & it's been pointed out before, the Rev G IS the sound of the 90s. Boost pedal of your choice, and done.

I found Triples to be too "cold" or stiff sounding. Just prefer the Dual.

But they all work. I had a Rev E Dual and an early ToV (with a serial loop) that I didn't care for (both seemed loose but fizzy). But even those did the job you'd want a Recto to do.

I have a late Rev G now that I adore. Sounds killer and am very happy with it after owning buckets of various Rectos over the years.

OP - do you do any tube rolling in your amps?

I got my Dual G for $1,500 last year and my Rectoverb head for $500 maybe 10 yrs ago.

Gnarly! Glad you guys were able to find what you needed in the Rev G! It’s all up to the eye of the beholder too, no amp is “better” than any other for sure. If it vibes, it’s the one haha. With that ToV I got It probably a case of what this guy talks about in this video haha:

That guy is Kyle Bull (aka @Brashido Code? here). He used to post here a lot but doesn't anymore AFAIK because I don't think he cared for the criticism that was dished out toward his YT channel :dunno: That said, I like his approach to demo'ing amps.

I've never played an F but I feel like my G is super 3D. But that is compared to a Single Rec and a Quick Rod

I also used to be a boost always on guy and now I rarely use them :dunno:

I had a few early G, small logo/attached power cord Duals. They were flat sounding to me. Tried different tubes etc. Next, had 2 G triples, also attached power cords...one was REALLY good, the other just good....kept the really good one for a bit and then found an F Triple. The F was so good, it made the G sound flat in comparison.
If I'd never played the F I'd have been fine with the G Triple.

Appreciate your input! No I haven’t played around with tubes much so far. my Rev F sounded fantastic with the generic JJs they had in there, but I’m open to suggestions for sure!

I got my Rev F for $2400, my Triple Rev G for $1850, the ToV for $2100, and my Road King II for $2900. Out of them all the Rev F is the very clear winner sonically. Second is the Triple Rev G for sound but the Road King II has its convenience uses so the number two slot is kinda tie. Easily dead last is the ToV it just doesn’t get on with my ears at all. That’s where hopefully a Ground Zero mod on it can make it my number one Recto haha

Kyle’s Channel is neat for his Gear demos but not really a habitual viewer. He usually comes up when I look up niche amp shootouts haha

Nothing wrong with a G for sure man I just think my ToV G is a lemon model maybe haha but if you ever get a chance you gotta try out a Rev F. Also still a big believer in the TS9 boost for that tightness to the tone haha.

Exactly my experience with it haha. I got ToV first and only realized how dark and murky it was til I got the Triple Rev G. Then ultimately the Rev F which made them all sound like they were missing something Haha.

Definitely hear you on that the Treadplate 2 Channels any revision are metal machines haha.

The battle of the fizz, flub, and darkness is the struggle with Rectos. All models do the Recto job but each person has to find the one that matches their ears best. Glad you found your grail recto, Hang on to it!

Do you ever run these with any of your Marshalls at the same time? Fun as hell.

That's where tube rolling can come into play but I agree, every amp brand can have their lemons. Never played a ToV

I’ve owned 6-7 different versions over the years. Never really paid much attention to what reversion they were. I have a Tremoverb that absolutely smokes all of the others and a 3 channel. I have a/b’d the 3 channel with a Rev G and there isn’t much if any difference. Mark Tremonti has a huge collection of dual recs and I saw a video of him talking about them and he was playing a 3 channel and said it was the best one he had. Who knows. 🤷🏼‍♂️

The “perfect” recto tone is so subjective from user to user, I kinda love and hate that about them. Each persons Recto is out there but you got to wade through a few to find it haha. Could be an Early 3 channel Triple or even Double, a Badlander, the Rev C, Road King 1, the Rev F (but not the first Rev F you tried but the second one haha), a Single Rec, Rectoverb, etc. its kinda crazy how many things fit within the Recto sound but some hit and some miss Hard. Im glad you were able to find yours!

So far a resounding not worth the hype in the poll, hopefully these poll results will help offset the cost of Rev Fs some day haha I’d love to grab another or a Triple F some day, but inching into that $5,000 territory lately is crazy! Thanks to everyone who has participated and gave there input on the subject!

I’ve had a Rev C, D, F, and G, and the 90s RI is my favorite of them all.
It’s the tightest, richest sounding (especially in the mids), with a much less boomy, more focused and usable low end.
It’s by far the most balanced and satisfying to play of them all imo.

Been hearing a lot of good things about that Reissue definitely gonna have try it out sometime. Not too big on the Chrome Chassis with Black Plate though.
