Does my band need a second guitarist (or just a mimiq pedal LOL)?

with your diad to single note phrases you are kind of doing two guitar parts on one guitar already, so I think 2 guitars could help with emphasis on certain sections. You could play off the motifs between each other and harmonize the melodies so they don't get stale.

I would record it into a daw and start layering guitar parts to see if you like it better, you don't have to play it that way live if you don't want to. I think in "over 1" for example at around 1 minute you could kick in the mimic on the rhythm part to do sort of a manual automation and bring some width and energy

Stuff like that is where I could see something like the mimiq being fun but I would rather it go through the pa somehow rather then bring another head and cab just for the effect.

It just created a lot of noise in my setup. I actually kinda liked it. Once I actually added another amp the mimiq was done for me.

i dont know, im not sure ive ever tried it with one amp, two amps is where it should shine though :dunno:

if i was gigging again, id probably do like Ola does here and just use a stereo cab and mic each side

Thanks for listening and the comment. It's funny you mention that part of Over 1 specifically because to me that's the most anemic guitar part. Not only would a mimiq fatten it up, that's actually where I think a second guitar part could definitely work lol.

I have been working with a drummer for the past few months and we've completed two songs and are working on our third. I really want to add a bassist and posted in a Chicago musicians FB group. The responses have been positive toward the music, but there have been suggestions to add a second guitar. I'm egotistical and vain and could definitely write a second guitar part to every song (or let someone come up with their own part), but I've never thought the songs really needed them. What say you, RT?

Edit - to clarify, I'm not asking how to make these recordings sound better. I know they're shit. I'm asking if you think the songs would benefit from a second guitar part.

I listened to both, nice riffs and song ideas there man. I would guess adding a tasteful bassist would really be all you need. For recording you will likely double track the parts to make it sound big, and live, it will sound big as is. If you really wanted to add a doubled feel, you could add a second amp and use some subtle stereo modulation between them both. But yeah, sounds like you have a good start on some killer songs.

Awesome, thanks so much for the feedback. Now I just gotta find this bassist lol.

I just consulted a bass pro who said YOU NEED 2 MORE GUITARISTS!
