Educate Me On P90’s (Are they obsolete?)

That's pretty chunky for P90s! But I can't look at that Mesa Quad teeter tottering on the Powerbrake without clenching my ass cheeks!
It actually balanced perfectly. Unfortunately the Quad is long gone and the Junior as well. But I replaced the Junior with a Les Paul special. Really wanted a neck pickup.

To also add to this longstanding thread - my P90s are some of my favorite pickups ever. Very late to the game on them but damn the set I designed sounds so good I just love em for my rock and metal playing. They are equally as good at jazz and clean goodness.

I am not joking when I say they quickly turned a Harley Benton into one of my best sounding guitars.... wildly fun to play.

I think the comparison between p90's and Tele bridge pu's is valid, but I fukking hate tele's.
So, if I want that tone, I can use P90's in a Les Paul, an SG, a LP Junior, an LP Special, and many other guitars that I would choose before I ever picked up a Tele.
So, yeah, I think P90's are cool!

one day you think they have best of both worlds of singles and HB - both bite and power, golden medium

then another day and you think they are weird - hum is present even more noticably cause you like to treat them as HB adding gain up, then clean tone doesn't have that spank and clarity strats and tele have.

But still like them 😁 in right guitar, right wood they shine
