Not guitar or amp related, but I dealt with an ebay scammer last summer. The listing said the seller was from the US but it was actually a Chinese seller. The item never arrived despite UPS tracking that said it did arrive. Usually when I order an item that is going to be shipped UPS I get an email from UPS with tracking info, but this time I got a weird screen shot looking thing sent to me by the seller via the ebay messaging system.

The tracking info was fake and UPS had no record of it. I checked the sellers feedback the feedback rating had plummeted in just a few days. Turns out they had pulled this fake UPS tracking scam on a bunch buyers around the same time. Yet, ebay sided with the seller stating that the item was delivered by UPS, said it was probably stolen off my porch then blamed Covid as well. I pointed out all of the negative feedback the seller had just received regarding the scam and they refused to acknowledge it.

At that point I went to close my ebay account and when I explained why and that I had 100% positive feedback over the course of buying and selling on ebay for 20 years, they finally refunded me.

I remember back bout 2005. I had a rare Fernandes monkey grip jem I bought in Japan. Came with case. Beautiful guitar. Had NO TREM BAR!! which I stated in pics. And description. Guy gets it. Pits a claim into PayPal. Saying item. Not as described. This was a rare trem bar to find. Wanted $200 partial refund. Told him send me the guitar back. Only sold it like $900
He was in Michigan. Told him I will drive to his place. Cash in hand to give me back the guitar.
he dropped the case. ‘Oh I found one for $20

Fucking assholes
The worst!!!!!

I forgot to mention that I also filed a dispute with paypal before I went to close my ebay account, and paypal sided with ebay. That's happened to me twice when I tried to do a chargeback.

In the 90's I bought a Mesa "Mark IIC+" head on ebay. Turned out to be a Mark IIB. It was a good amp but I was bummed because at the time I really wanted specifically a IIC+, for obvious reasons. I eventually sold it to fund other gear purchases.

I was not exactly thrilled to find out Mesa could have modded it to IIC+ specs after I'd sold it. :)

So yeah, it wasn't the worst thing in the world but a single transaction did burn me enough that I still to this day do probably way more research on any given piece of gear I'm interested in than is probably necessary.

However, a few hours of buyer's remorse prevention in the form of making sure what you want is what you're getting, and making sure what you want is actually what you want in the first place, is definitely worth years of possibly looking back and wishing you'd have done things differently.
The old bait and switch. The seller clearly knew it wasn’t a llC+. Just another form of scammer/scumbag. You should have said you don’t need the tubes and will send them back. Then rig a flaming projectile in the box to become airborne when opened. And behind the flaming projectile, a pop up comes out behind it, that says, “aint karma a bitch!” (As he is trying to wipe his now hideously disfigured face!)

I came back to look at this thread and poll. Those number are scary! To you who I have bought and sold to from here, HC,TGP, etc..Thank You all for being standup!
