Got home from work....drummer came over. Had a few drinks....ready to jam. Sounds good right?
We got about 15 minutes into it. Both of us threw in the towel. Sat around listening to music shooting the shit and having a few ore drinks. Just was not feeling it at all. :aww:
Maybe I need a break.

Dude it happens to me when Im playing the same ol shit all the time which is what many of us do, the same music and the same licks, Im trying to learn some blues now and blues licks but yeah it happens, go onto youtube and learn some totally new tunes and solos and youll see how much fun your having again :) I also sing when I jam now too and I stink as a singer but the new dynamic makes me look forward to jamming with the guys...

It's good to take breaks from time to time. When you are not feeling it, don't force it.

Thanks for the input guys.
We know about 80 songs.
but always seem to fall in the same box.
I guess hanging listening to music is still keeping it fresh.
Think just gonna take it on week by week.
Not throwing the towel any time soon.

Nope.

I've always got new material written so there's always something new to work on.

I have no guitar, amp, pedals, cables or anything music gear related in my house right now. I took a long break from guitar. Sold all of my previous gear. Been coming back to rigtalk for awhile now as i have gotten interested in playing again. Rigtalk helps fuel the fire for gear. Ha
Taking a break did me some good actually. Life is not all about music and music gear to me. God, family, friends, then myself are the order of my priorities. lifes better for me that way. But. Its about time for a guitar and amp again :)

I gave up guitar for a complete year one time. I played out with my band every Friday,Saturday, some Thursday's and a Sunday once in a while for about two years straight. On our last show I kept all my gear in my van and woke up the next day and went to the local Music Go Round dropped it off and said I will be back for a check later. I got tired of a lot of things. I didn't even own a guitar for a year or so. I always felt like there was something missing. I did miss playing my guitar. I didn't miss being in a band and a lot of bullshit that comes with it. This was about 15 years ago. Now I am older and wiser and appreciate things a lot more. Life is short and I am glad I took a break and got away from it all for a while. I would probably be dead, have liver damage or would be married to some backstage Betty with 10 kids not knowing if they were mine or not.

Well FWIW I kinda take a break from playing after every gig weekend. Gigs on Friday & Saturday, I don't even think about playing on the next couple of days. It just comes naturally, as it does come back as well, the urge to play again.

So I'd say sometimes it's good to take a break yeah. You could take a break "subconsciously", kinda like I seem to do. What I mean is just not play before you feel like it.

I dunno, to me your last night sounds like it was still fun :) having a few drinks listening music & shooting the shit with your drummer. If you feel like picking up the guitar you pick it up. If not, don't force it :).

It'll be good

This is cool.

I have a warehouse full of gear 5000miles away from me.
All I want when I get back is cable, amp, axe.
Simple.

That's called GAS my friend LOL

Musta just been sorta of a slump night. I went almost 9 years without playing. I was just collecting guitars.
That was a shit load of fun. I mean I would a guitar in....play it about 15 minutes then back in the case to go look for more guitars. This is when Ebay was the GO TO place for guitars in the early/mid 90's. 1980 Gibson Les Paul custom shop for $800???  I was a kid in a candy store buying and selling. Had over 300 electrics thru them years.
Not all at once of course. :D Most I had was 40 in one room. Now I got 3.
Sometimes we bounce back and start jamming again but just wasnt feeling it at all yesterday.
Sure it will pass.

The worst is rehearsing on a Monday night. We did that once.

Learn some old Stones tunes from '68-'72. Lotsa alternate tunings, interesting Mick Taylor solos, slide - something totally different...

Yeah that sounds good. Last time this happend we went on a Zepplin kick. It was a blast.
The metal stuff is just getting redundant at this time for me.

After a few drinks all I want to do is play guitar and jam. Music is my life and I'm happy that I never get into those moods that you describe where you don't want to jam at all, seems like it would suck?! I can get bored of playing a certain style of music or certain songs can get to me after a while... but i'm glad to say i still always feel inspired to make music. Maybe you need to make a stylistic change, or get a new guitar if that's what inspires you??

Yeah think we need to change out our set list. That will put a spark in it. Back to some older rock.

Certainly. Do what it takes to ignite some enthusiasm back into the band.

Not really a band. Just me and my best friend I have known since I been 5 playing drums. More or less just rocking out all the high school dreams. I need to start jotting notes in my phone when I think of something during the week. When it comes to saturday nite jamming....mind goes blank then we fall into the same routine.
