Yeah think we need to change out our set list. That will put a spark in it. Back to some older rock.

What I was getting at in my earlier post, for me, playing guitar would be less than inspiring without creating.
Do you write?

We did write about 5 originals. But they sorta got pushed to the back burner. Havent touched them in years.
You are right. I need to get outside my little box and peek around the corners. Lots of more choices to dabble in.
Cant see the forest standing in the trees.

After playing for 30 years + now, it happens to me a good bit.
But usually something will happen to make me want to play like for instance,
last nite i was lookin through CL for shits and giggles and found a stupid crazy deal
i could not pass up and now today i spent most of the time playing my new to my stable Ibanez S540 ltd i scored for $100 from craigslist! :D
Guy that owned it had it under the bed and got tired of it being there so i was glad to take it off his hands and play the crap out of it

Awesome score!!
Craigslist is insane sometimes, you have to look everyday.

Hanging out with your buds sounds like a good time  Half of making music is enjoying it and enjoying who you make it with.

To answer your question. Yes, it's been a few months. I seem to only pick it up when it's time to get down. And that is fine by me.

Not really a band. Just me and my best friend I have known since I been 5 playing drums. More or less just rocking out all the high school dreams. I need to start jotting notes in my phone when I think of something during the week. When it comes to saturday nite jamming....mind goes blank then we fall into the same routine.

Little off topic, but... Sometimes i'll have dreams where I'm hearing this awesome riff, or even a full song, and when I wake up I will try to get it figured out on my guitar, or even just hum it into a voice recorder. Some of my best ideas came to me just like that, in my dreams... it's crazy how good some of these ideas are too. It's stuff i'd never write while awake. Problem is, i have to record it, or figure it out as soon as I wake, or it'll be lost forever. Being aware of all the little ideas and melodies that go thru the mind in an average day or night is a good way to be productive, and bring back the excitement... My mind is always full of music... maybe i'm just weird. :D Stream of conscious is my songwriter.

Maybe you need to trip on some LSD or Shrooms?? That always sparks some creative output. Personally I can't take hallucinogens anymore, it's just too hard on the mind for me, but a good part of my teens and early 20's I was high on hallucinogens and they give you a completely new perspective on music, sound...The world looks different forever after using hallucinogens a few times.

I got burned out and moved to another country in 2009. Took time from playing for about a year solid. It just wasn't interesting anymore, and then I was at a show and someone threw a guitar on me and said " it's in C .. have fun"... The bug hit me again and I've been going ever since ! That year off was much needed and helped me actually in songwriting. I stopped thinking like a guitarist and more like someone who wanted to just listen to music.

I gave it up for about 9 months last year. Then one Sunday, I plugged in and played for about 3 hours. The callouses were gone from my fingertips. When I got done, my fingers were so sore. When I looked at them, there were actual blisters! Over 40 years playing, never had blisters. Talk about painful. Was worse than pricking my fingers to get a blood sugar level. Took about a month to build them up again. I will not repeat that mistake. I'll run something every day even if it is just a couple of simple scales.

normal, just chill and relax. Playing when your not in to it will never work out. Where i used to play they had a bar, we would shoot beers just to pass time, some times when drunk we would go back to the room and play wicked (atleast that what we where thinking ;)

You just got a Stealth and now youre tired of playing?!?!

That's it! I'm coming up there and bringing that amp to a good home! Why I outta... :gethim:

We could always use some more drum jam contributors over at GAB.

just today it happened to me. and whats really nuts is i just got a new 5153 mini and a splawn cab
and a rocktron replifex all within the last 3 or 4 days and today i am just like "Meh not into playing"
just goes to show new gear may not be the answer.
What i do is take some time off and game on my PC and then come back to guitar in a day or so.
just do something that has nothing to do with guitar or even music for a day or two

After playing for over 20 years, I still get into "funks" where I hate playing, hate all of my gear...nothing seems to sound or feel right, etc. I just figure a break is in order. The inspiration usually hits me after a short break and then all is back to normal.

Yeah this happen to me and I quit playing for a few months. Now I have to build up my callouses again!! Painful since I like to bend a lot!! But, that is what I get for putting it down, but to my defense I had a numb left handed pinky for over 2 months and when I could play it was too painful since I lost my callouses, but I decided to go at it again recently to get back in the game!!

+1
Creating original material will give you a rush that no cover song can even approach. Getting a DAW for recording and software for video editing will bring all that to another level too. YMMV IMO IME FWIW WTFDIK
