It's got the G12H bass cones in it, and responds to 1W the same as it does 50W - smooth and perfect at any volume from any position in the room. Every other 4x12 I own (3 Stone Age, Mills, 2 other vintage Marshall straights, Matchless, Scumback) is at a studio. Of course, I am considering whether the right G12M complement to my basement '69 would be the EVH cab, just as you have done.
That's the thing about it that I really like... it's almost identical to my old basketweave in terms of volume response.
My 412 cab with V30s is insanely loud! Every amp I plug into it sound way louder than on any other cabinet. If the amp volume is on 3, through the 5153 it sound like on 3, through the V30s sound like on 5!!! And it's not because the V30s handle more wattage, since my 4x12 with old EVM-12L would sound like on 3 also.
Of course, the more you push air with these speakers, the better they sound. However, you don't need too much volume for that to start happening, like a V30 or a Scholz need.
For the price you can find them used, I think it's a no brainer! And when getting it, open it up and look at the wood work, the way the parts are bolted together, etc... it's an amazingly well built cab. And it sounds fantastic!
