i think he is talking about the blue channel... agreed on the red channel, it has too much on the stealth IMO... but the blue channel MAKES the stealth. to me it is very open and just an amazing high gain tone. very tight crunchy and has balls, more than the blue on the 50 watt. i have heard some people compare the blue on the 50 watt to the blue on the stealth and that is not true. the blue channel on the stealth has its own thing going on. i do wish the green channel was more clean but still possible to get a good clean by running the gain very low and volume high.

The Stealth blue to me was worth every penny of that $1,000 up-charge from the regular.
I preferred the blue of the original over the Stealth, especially at volume and in a band mix.
I was talking about the blue channel. Loved the original but wanted more gain, that's all. I've heard of the 'clipping mod' but I also heard not songbook things about it as well. The 50w had more gain but I couldn't jive with the feel of that amp. And yes I play in a band at 'volume'...rather LOUD I must say

You're the #1 defender of the original amp...and that's fine. It just didn't work for me...nor did the two 50w heads I had either
If I was a betting guy I am positive your gonna love the Stealth Tommy Boy. :D

Oh I agree Danno. Doug (stompboxfreak) brought his over and I was timid and embarrassed to put it thru the paces because he's such a great player. I didn't twist any knobs or check the loop out. I'm excited to get mine thurs and get all my goodies running through it

I'd like to trade my Engl Fireball Extreme Aggression for a stealth ...

They pop up on eBay a lot as open box or like new for $1900-$2000. I'm guessing a lot of folks bought one online to try out because they couldn't find one locally and then decided to flip it. That's what I did too, but ended up keeping it because FedEx made it free. The only one I've seen up close besides my own was at the Sam Ash in Hollywood.

What's your verdict Lord Toneking?
I love this amp! Yes it has a major amount of gain. I really only have two complaints on the amp in general. First, the clean is too dirty. I crank the volume and barely crack the gain knob and it works though. Not as good as the original 100w though. Secondly, I don't care for how the amp reacts to rolling off the volume. This is a if part of my playing and where my Quickrod really excelled. It's gonna take some getting used to especially when playing live. Overall though this thing is a freakin beast. The blue channel is pure sex notes and chords just bloom...I could live on this channel. The red is also just amazing. It has a super smooth saturated hi-fi tone that inspires you to play. Gobs of gain and can get downright brutal yet retain its clarity, focus and punch.

I have -0- buyers remorse and can't wait to use it for this weekends gig and our New Year's Eve show.

On a side note: I have an evh stealth special guitar and I don't like it at all thru this amp...not at all. My ebmm axis however sounds amazing as does my strat with a Duncan distortion/jazz combo. I really love the feel and playability with the EVH Wolfgang but I think I'm selling it to fund another axis, peavey Wolfgang or a guitar with lower output pups

The peavey wolfgang is the opposite of low output pickups, those are ridiculously hot

Try rolling tubes in it. I wasn't keen on all the JJ's, so I settled on a Tung-Sol in v1 and a Chinese 12ax7 in the PI. My clean channel came alive, although I run the gain like you, Very low and volume up to compensate. Guitar pickups can have a huge impact. I love this amp!

Yes I've had quite a few. I grew to love the ebmms better but if imagine a peavey Wolfgang would sound better than the EVH Wolfgang I have. Though my axis sounds amazing I was just saying that I 'bet' this amp would really like lower output pups...maybe

I agree that low output p/u's are better suited with the Stealth. They tame this beast giving more clarity and better guitar volume control.

I put Wolfetone Marshallheads in my EVH Wolf. They sound so much better than the stock pups and I really hated the pups in my last Peavey Wolf.

You can put a 12AU7 in the V1 slot to clean up the green channel. It shaves some gain off blue and red too, but then there's already plenty on tap there.

i like this idea... you think a NOS Mullard 12AT7WA would work well there?

No idea. Before I had it modded, I just grabbed a plain old JJ 12AU7. I don't know much about other models of preamp tubes. That's an endless rabbit hole.
