Somebody tried to trade me a gold top Les Paul for the EVH and I had it tested and it was just painted gold, not even real.

Polished tubes give a better clean tone. I like to leave them unpolished for better dirty tone. This is the secret to good vintage tones. That, and removing the preamp tube shields.....
