FAVORITE METALLICA ALBUM

MOP and AJFA are definitely up there for me, but I honestly think The Black Album is my favorite. Hate on it all you want, it's damn good songwriting...

As much as this is a hater comment, in my opinion after Master/RTL, they got steadily worse.

There's a couple songs I like on The Black album, Unforgiven is one of my favourite Metallica tracks, but I like EVERY song on RTL and MoP and most on AJFA and all on Kill 'em all.

But Load and Reload I couldn't really listen to if I had a choice about it, there's so much "Yeah-heh heh!" and Lars' boring drumming, plus Kirk's steadily worsening tone and guitar playing and his increased hendrix 'influence'

MoP and RTL were masterpieces, and KEA was fantastic also, AJFA has production I think is shit and no mids to be seen, but some really chunky riffs and quite progressive in parts IMO. Great albums.

I was trying to avoid this one, but here goes: I think Ride and Master changed metal, and AJFA is my personal fav because it's so heavy and pissed off.
I loved Black when it was released and still do in some ways, but when I listen to it now I can hear the beginning of the end.

Load was by far James' best vocal work and had some good tunes though much different than their predecessors.

Reload was mostly meh, but had its moments, and after that the only good thing they released IMO were Garage Days and S&M.
St. Anger is possibly the worst rock/metal album ever released and I just can't get into Death Magnetic. I want to like it, but it just sounds like they're trying so hard and just can't deliver. And the vocals are pretty bad.

I hate to go to the obvious comparison, but Endgame (Megadeth) smokes DM.

The shitty production fits the album's pissed off mood so well too. :)
I actually agree. It adds a harsher, sterile, stark feeling to songs that fit that template. It makes Dyers Eve one of my favorite songs of theirs.
i agree 100%

5.98 cd the best thing they ever did until garage revistied. than the symphany cd.

Another Vote for Ride the Lightning!

I have worn out several vinyl and Cd's of that Album!

Their last album was ajfa but kill em all rules! they are dead to me now

AJFA.

It would be a 10/10 with the bass brought up in the mix....

Although it sounds like poo, AJFA has my favorite songs, riffs and solos. They were just so angry back then. Gotta love it.

And Justice for All.....
Best one by far. The aggression is the most intense, some of the best riffs, and the best guitar tone on any of the albums to date, and IMHO one of the best heavy tones to date, out of everything ever released by any band.

Not working for me at all....

I prefer the dry, nearly non existent bass guitar mix of AJFA
