Finding a shipping box for a amp is a pain

Uhaul or one of those storage places that also sell packing supplies.
UHAUL had one that fit my Peavey 5150 with enough room for packing all around it.
Good luck

OMG. It took me MONTHS to ship my Mark IV to Mesa b/c I simply couldn't find a box appropriately sized to safely ship an amp head in. It took way more time, effort and mental resources than I expected.

I just get 2 large Home Depot moving boxes. Cut the end off one side of each box. Put one inside the other to make one giant super box. Then adjust the width to the right size. Then tape it together. Now I never worry about what size box to get since it’s flexible and I have more than enough room to accommodate any packing materials.

I always found a good selection of box sizes to double box an amp at the local UPS stores. The FEDEx stores by me didn't have as much of a size selection and they kept saying they would have to make custom sized boxes, I was like WTF??? I never had those issues at the UPS stores that I have been to.

You can pay mesa 30 bucks and they will send you a form fitted box, that's what I did. Or u can make one. They literally use yellow spray foam and fill the box around your amp.

That’s why I keep mine and have several. They’re useful during moves as well

Yea, it really is. I

I have gotten a couple from Uhaul as well. They have one that is meant for vacuum machines/golf clubs, and it works well with some amps.

Man I went around to a few shippers locally and UPS had a close enough box I could work with. Bought a roll of packing bubble wrap from Home Depot + some foam padding and just made mine. This was all to ship a Suhr SL67. Absolute pain but you can make it work. Got some good shipping advice from a few folks here that helped. Can also cut some strips of bubble wrap and after the amp it wrapped a couple of times put those on each end. Dump packing peanuts in there and make sure there is no movement. Whoever you’re selling it to will love and hate you.

Go to FedEx. They have boxes. If they don't have one exactly the right size, they will cut one for you.

Or... better yet... they will box it up for you for under $50. Worth it considering you don't have to drive around and buy tape and bubble wrap and all that. Hell... if you're selling the thing, the buyer should be paying for packing/shipping. This isn't rocket science.

FedEx also has expanding foam that molds around your item. They'll box your stuff up for you and use the foam.

Hint; two boxes + gaffer tape + carpenter's knife = any size box you need

I can't trust the FedEx guy to deliver my package to someone else's front porch safely, much less pack a $3,000 fragile amp head.

At least a claim for damage would hold a lot more water if they packed it.

Yeah. This seems like a failure to use imagination. I generally keep a few laying around. But in cases where i didnt, i make my own. I always keep foam and shit from things i buy and cover the corners of an amp with foam, then I make a box around that by cutting the LWH out of cardboard and taping together, then i put foam on the corners of that and around the side, bottom and top, and then make a box to fit that...pretty much indestructable

That sounds like a fucking pain in the ass.

I've shipped about 10 vintage Marshalls in the last few months. None of them were damaged in shipping. FedEx boxed them for me. Do whatever you're comfortable with, but that's my advice. BTW, I don't use FedEx to ship. Just have them pack stuff for me. Then use Pirate Ship for UPS label.

In the past, I've just grabbed one of the golf club boxes and some bubble wrap then packed myself at home. But you know what... not worth my time or effort anymore. I just bring the amp to FedEx Office. Then slap the label on and UPS picks it up at my building. Pretty easy.
