ventura,

when you get your power amp, let me know if you end up running class A or class A/B. Other than volume I honestly couldn't tell much difference except that the fan ran harder on class A :dunno: . Let me know what you think.

The 2/90/2 doesn't offer A/AB operability, only the 2/50/2 power amp has this toggle; at least thats what I'm getting from the stats I've rendered off their site and in chat with my distributor and Steve and such. I typically love the Class A feature for amps, but again, thats for sweetening the sound and allowing saturation to happen, also hard as hell on the power valves. I opted for the 90 per side without the Class A toggle because:

a) no need to color the sound with ClassA
b) no need to focus on pushing the valves to maximum
c) wanted more than enough headroom for clarity (and 90W per side is over the top)
d) Class AB in this application means longer tube life

So in short, Class AB for me in this particular application.

I got one of these from a forum member and I love the Makoplex and Dorado channels. I guess it's an older version as the Dorado channel was very noisy. I ended up changing a resistor to lower the gain just a bit and now the noise level is similar to the Makoplex channel. The voicing of both is great, I find the Dorado somewhat similar to a JMP1 on OD2, but richer..juicy, chewy

The crunch channel is okay but the clean channel was way too dark. I put in a massive bright cap which made it so much better to me...sounds like an old plexi now.

Overall it's a great unit, but I wish it had turret board construction as I've seen in his older amps. It was a bitch to remove the PCB and change that resistor.

Fryette 2/90/2 gets in-house this weekend.
Fryette Deliverance 4x12 - in-house this weekend.

I'll be setting the cab up first in ISO to blast it and break it in... Then the official review clock will start. I am sorry that from what I've read, the original purchasers found a few elements 'lacking' in the Mak4. I've only been driving it through the back of my VH4S into a Diezel FL 4x12 cab (G12K) and it's potent as hell, and very quiet. I have ZERO problems with the low end - it's got gobs. And as for the clean channel, I've played it with a super strat Suhr, my Lesters, ESPs, Hamer, etc. and pending on the guitar, fo'sure, it changes... But I've not found any need to mod or convert, or complain thus far.

As mentioned, Andrew took into consideration everything he was getting as far as feedback goes. The pre has little to no noise or hiss, has a good lot of low end, sounds sharp and articulate, and of the channels to date, I love all of them (Crunch being the surprise sleeper channel here!!). Dorado is angry and pissed off, and the Makoplex channel will run with, and beat, some of the best out there.

Full rack arrives this weekend - whooooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooo!!! :rawk:
