Your poor drummer is probably deaf in the left ear now! :D
I actually did not have my amp cranked at all. I miced the cab to get a feed in my in ear monitors and to distribute the sound in the PA. The complaint from the drummer is that he couldn't hear ME LOL!

I'll be playing La Place d'à Côté on Papineau St early september, it should be nice since this is a real show place, not a simple bar with limited stage.

How did you get the gig? Sent some demos? Audio, video? Is it possible to have the contact's name so I can give them a demo? We're trying to get into Pub St-Paul and a bar called TNT on Crescent (or Peel) and man, it's tough. And I'm not getting any younger, so I can understand bar owners that want young faces with lots of attitude on their stages. I might not be young but I got the attitude!

Played "La Place..." on Papineau street about 2 years ago. Nice stage and lotsa place for your fans/supporters. Back then they had a VHS cam with audio from the PA to record the show. Sound was pretty good. Are they still asking 200$ to rent the place?

For Pub St-Paul, you need a booker (or a really good contact). Each fall they make a contest and the winner gets access to the place.

TNT, ain't easy also. A booker or if you can reach the guy on Myspace you may be able to get a window opportunity for Thursday evening (if not he'll hook you with 2 or 3 other bands!). Only cover and last time I had a talk with the dude, he wanted some 80s stuff.

Bar St-Laurent 2 is easy to get a gig there but the place is not very cool. Club Saphir, better have your crowd as they ask you out of the stage before midnight.

Café d'en Face in St-Jerome is a cool place to play if you can get to play there from Thursday to Saturday.

Philb and Mokaccino, I'm curious to know what your band plays? Any set list to share? I'm just starting a new band (recently quit my last band of over 3 years). The new band is planning focusion on more accessible music (what I call party rock).

Salut Benoit!

My band is nothing special, we're just a classic top 40 cover band - from ZZ Top to Metallica, nothing fancy really. Aside from our singer, we're all 40+, so it's gonna get a lot tougher to get into bars to play. I'm a solid rhythm guitar player but I do suck at solos, I only play solos for myself when I'm practicing alone :D . I try to emphasize on entertainment since we do covers like any other bands, so I try to be different. I will do anything possible to get that crowd going, I got a wireless so I can do pretty much anything I want on and off stage. If you wanna see our song list/clips/pics, my band's web site is right in my sig, go check it out. The dude from the TNT wants attitude and looks - guys with big arms and shit, so since nobody in my band is Mr Universe, I doubt we ever play there. I played the Pub St-Paul with other bands, as well as Bar Chez Maurice in St-Lazare. Café d'en Face will let you in on week nights, I think they want original bands on weekends and some tribute bands on friday - or the opposite, can't remember.

Anyways, thx for the infos on bars, we'll see what happens. I got told at the last band practice to "cool it off" a bit on stage, meaning I do "too much" entertaining. That sucks  , you gotta do something different to get the crowd to come back and see you. The guys in the band are becoming way too serious, especially for a cover band.
