Stairway to heaven, followed by One and then maybe eruption for good measure. Maybe just the riff from Lay it down. Although that seems to be getting outdone by some kind of Alice in Chains riff these days.

Actually scrap all that. Can you play something by Tim Henson? No edits! He would NEVER need to edit anything.

But there is no universe that are going to convince me to play Ratt without significant compensation - I have a reputation to maintain

This is the amp that I am gassing for, so can't wait to hear the clips.

Likewise man! I adore all the MGL clips i've heard but have never even seen one in the wild, so I'm really, really stoked to be able to run this through it's paces and get some good quality clips up.

I don't have everything on planet earth, but I got the main food groups of mics, speakers, boosts, etc, so I can cover a lot of ground and hopefully give people a chance to hear how it would translate into their rig.

These are on the VERY short list of amps that interest me. Some of my favorite recorded thrashy tones are on Ride the Lightning and Garage. Something along those lines would be of interest to me.

I also boost everything, so I’d like to know how it takes the usual culprits.

Dude, tell me about it! Ever since I heard clips of Chris/Smash's, I've been dying to get my hands on one of these so I could get it under a mic and see what it feels like under the fingers.

Some of my favorite recorded thrashy tones are on Ride the Lightning and Garage. Something along those lines would be of interest to me.

I also boost everything, so I’d like to know how it takes the usual culprits.

Yes! So I'm going to be doing at least two demo tracks; one is going to be classic metal (ala deep purple, def leppard, etc) with the vintage mode, with some classic pentatonic wanking. The second is going to be on the "modern" mode and is going to be much heavier - probably some thrash and power metal style stuff and shredding.

I'm also going to comb through the thread and see how many song, riff, speaker, mic, boost requests I can handle before I run out of time.

I think I could get even closer if I fiddled more, but it's really close to the plexi/greenback tone of the original IMO

Sounds great I actually preferred your tone to the original. Where was the master for these tones? Sounds like the perfect blend of a really really good 800 and some Plexi mixed in.

Might be looking for an 800 style amp with more gain and great parts. I’d love to have an MGL.

Both tracks preamp and master were both halfway/at five - it's capable of a lot more gain than I was using, 100%

the next demo is going to be the "gain cranked up" demo with the modern mode and some heavier riffs

One of the things I've noticed about the modern/vintage is that it's not really a "youtuber demo" or "madison square bedroom" amp

Yes, it has a great master volume and you can play at quite low volumes just fine. And yes, it has lots of gain.

But it's not a 5150 or that type of thing where its just gaingaingaingaingain mush; it's usable gain that you would actually use playing live or on a recording. It isn't a "quietly practicing sweep picking in your bedroom" amp.

These are good things in my opinion. There are already other amps for the gobs of gain and low volume crowds so I was expecting and glad to hear that this is the more old school approach that leads to better tone and dynamics.

Yep that is 100% the lane that this amp is in. I don't mean to say that you can't play it at low volumes (you can) and that it doesn't have lots of gain (it does)

Just that it isn't geared for that crowd - it excels at other things. Dynamics/responsiveness, detail, that sort of thing.

It sounded good overall but the lead tone seemed like it might benefit from a little boost. Amp seems extremely articulate. Really nice job on the demos Dan.

Yeah, the lead tone being the same as the rhythm was by request, not my choice (or I would have tracked the leads separately, with either a boost or the gain cranked up a little)

I'm going to spend some time making the lead tone sound more to my taste in the "modern" mode demo track

Nice. It seems articulate enough to easily cut through adding more gain/boost. I was getting some southern rock vibes off that lead tone though your licks were saying metal. Lead tone was good, just a little more gain would've smoothed out some of that nice bite. Amp seems really badass. Wish the guy made combos....
