First Mezzabarba Apocalypse Demo

I’m clearly talking about the guys comparing it to Ola’s videos. Sorry to hit a nerve.

Sounds like you’re singling me out. You’ve always brought killer tone and true unadulterated raw recordings to us, and from that, it’s very easy to tell how an amp sounds or reacts. Your riffs and ability to dial things in are exactly what we would be doing.

However that amp is almost $5,000. It’s named apocalypse. I’m allowed to draw my own conclusions from recordings of whatever exists out there. It’s absolutely nothing on your recording skills and absolutely everything on the amp itself especially for the price.

Edit: If it isn’t clear I’ll state it right out - Thank you very much for taking the time to record and produce a video to be released on a holiday for all of us to experience. Your efforts are NOT underestimated or unappreciated, and quite the opposite.

Does sound thick, and fat but did I hear you say you're running a boost in front?

..and Happy Thanksgiving .
(Still got the Bogner cab? )

this, i know i watch all of Kyle's vids as trusted accurate demo's, not liking an amp is just that, the presentation is great

@Bad.Seed no need to get slighted if people don’t like the amp. Not every piece of gear is a winner and it’s only natural to compare gear within reason. It’s a high gain amp. It’s not like others on here are comparing it to a Vox or Fender. Speakers are a whole other ball of wax.

With that said, you do a great service for us with your vids. Thank you for the content you put out and thank you as well for saving me and seemingly others on here a 5K curiosity cost. That amp sounded blah to me as well. Hard pass

Yeah, I had one and it reminds me of that, also 200w kt88

Maybe it's just that KT88s suck hard

I hear a "buzz" sound come through in the recording which reminds me of my Rivera KR7 but without comparing side by side hard to say since usually you can dial it out on the KR7 if you really crank it up. (it's really prevalent at lower volumes since it's just preamp I guess)

Why wouldn't we compare the amp to other videos of other so called METAL amps? I'm sure OLA will get one of these Apocalypse amps as well and we will post videos of that and compare it to other METAL amps and see where it stands.

If you like the amp that's great, but the other amps in the METAL category of tight lowend response, wazooo gain, and response to low tunings are going to be compared to it and judgments made. It may be how that amp is dialed in but from what I could hear the EVH EL34 100 watter was a tighter amp all round, some guys will like that some won't.

Kyle always does a great job at showcasing what an amp is capable of. Overall I thought it sounded pretty good, but I don't think I heard 5K good. Basing it on the single video I hear enough good that if it were going for 2.5K-3K it could find a place in my collection. For 5K I'd be wanting that something extra special that puts it above everything else. I'm not hearing that here. From the video I'm just not hearing anything from it that isn't covered by what I already own. I'd have to hear/play it in person to see if it did have that something extra.

The 200 watts is pretty cool, but I feel like that's more of a novelty to go along with the Apocalypse name. 50 watts is more than enough for most venues anyone would play. I know transformers play a part in tone, but I don't think there would the that significant of a difference to use 100 watt transformers. And it's not like anyone will be playing stadiums relying only on amp volume or pushing 200 watts into power tube distortion. I think two KT88's for 100 watts would have been just fine. Maybe if it could double as an all tube bass amp sure, but it doesn't seem geared for that. And this all comes from someone who has a 300 watt guitar amp that's complete overkill. But that one has an SVT power section and I use it as a bass amp as well as guitar.

No doubt the build quality and overall sound quality is there. I'm sure this will be the prefect amp for a decent number of people. Maybe my thoughts will change as more reviews come out, but so far Kyles videos have been one of my best sources for judging an amp. For me it doesn't appear to quite fit what I would be wanting from an amp with that price tag.

Damn I remember when he posted that vid, lol. 👨‍🦳

I liked it, but it's a tough sell at 5k. Would have to play one or hear one in the room. Dig Kyle's vids though, been watching them for at least a year now.

Same. It’s not like I bashed it from the beginning - I had high hopes it would be more than that. Have absolutely no idea why he singled me out and even went as far as to unfriend me on his personal page - we have a ton of mutual friends in this market and it’s like he’d choose a physical amp over a personal relationship. And then after calling me out for sharing a video from Ola he disappeared.

Sucks but if that’s how it is then I certainly won’t be dealing with his gear selloffs anytime in the future. Anyone that tries to suppress freedom of speech is someone I want nothing to do with.

It's kind of weird, after watching his vids and comment replies, I thought he had much thicker skin. I know the feeling though, you really love an amp, and it doesn't translate to everyone that watches the vid. It happens. I didn't see anyone insult him personally though, just not as psyched as he was.

edit: I also bet he has vids that he wasn't impressed with, and people loved it. :dunno:

The thing is: I hadn't had the impression that he was overly enjoying the Amp. Strange Settings. No 12 o'clock start at the dials. Paid for the review. That means some sort of stress. He HAS to sell it now, somehow. Even though i remember right now, that he pointed out the noisyness of the Uber-Ultra...Anyway. I asked him for a new clip in the typical manner he does them.
