First Mezzabarba Apocalypse Demo

Here's to hoping this is the first and last demo of this amp. Is it too late to rebrand it the Apocryphal Apocalypse?
We may just we need a better recording of it. If it's like the Mzero OD I had with more power and gain it should be a very good amp. I remember the clips of the Mzero not doing much for me either. Maybe they're one of those amps that aren't as easy to record well

Yeah, you’re right in that it deserves another chance. I think I have MDS (Mezzabarba Derangement Syndrome)

Interesting thread. After watching the demo video several times, I would say that it's a good sounding amp, but not great a great one. Subjectively speaking, the issue is at this price it better sound, respond exceptional and include above average features and versatility. I look forward to other demos showing up, but Kyle presents amplifiers in a very raw and straightforward context without color or post processing. I really appreciate this about his videos (thank you Kyle). All of this said. I suspect that the build quality / engineering is probably fantastic. Also, the amp may "feel" amazing under the fuingers and in the room. These are quality that don't translate well in a video. For now. Not an amp that I would run out and buy.

This amp has that wizard thing going on where you feel like it’s about to sound good but never quite gets there - it’s always just 10% short. MZero was like that too

That amp sounds like ass. Period. Kyle and his demos are solid. He does a great job recording and demoing the amps.

It's the amp people.

Metal Amp? Nope. Maybe dark, sludge doom metal. Maybe.

The dark, boomy, bass-heavy 8 Ohm Mesa OS 4X12 is not doing it any favors. Those cabs suck wet chunky corn ridden ass.

I'm biased since I'm very much like Kyle...slightly goofy metalheads with amp obsessions. I have watched the Apocalypse vids that are out there several times, but only really dug the tones once it was boosted. I seriously doubt the Mezzebarbra would send my Ultralead packing. And at that price, I'd just take the leap and cough up the extra bux to score a used Wizard MTL or keep saving for a Hellrazor since the Wizards have been at the top of my wishlist for so long.

And personally, I dig it when Kyle gets that "Oh Yeah!" face when he hears something he likes from an amp. I get goofy too when I plug into my best amps. In general, I think he's a decent bloke following his dream. Dude is definitely waving the metal flag hard for his local metal music scene, while still pumping out content like a champ. But rigtalk can be Das brutalz when it comes to opinions, and I'm as guilty as anyone here. I can't stand getting pics in my pm box of JackingoffThug's feet in high heels. Dude....shave those toes.

That was the first impression I had with the Trinity I got in trade recently. But after learning how to dial it in and taking it to band practice I think it sounds really good. Has a nice midrange crunch and harmonic overtones that sound great in a mix.

I was gonna say 'wow, a little more nuance don't hurt, guys', the amp didn't sound THAT bad, until going back to Kyle's video showed me that all the tones that I thought were decent, were externally boosted! o_O:unsure:

For something called the Apocalypse, at 200 Watts, at that price, I expected more TBH.

Sure, I did hear the Marshally high-end roar and the chunky, more Soldano-ish lows and the 'dad rock' tones were pretty good, although the VHT/Fryette's Sig:X's rhythm channel would probably slay that as well...

I definitely appreciate the effort @Bad.Seed , but my 10 times cheaper 'new' '89 Mesa Caliber 50+ does a meaner, tighter metal tone...UNboosted. And it can get even chuggier when boosting. And you did a video on that one as well, that actually helped convince me getting mine, since Choptones' video of the Cal50+ was quite "meh", even though I know he does great videos usually.
