Fortin NATAS Pedal/Preamp

I always think Ola has a tone match going on in his demos, just like Reza. Not sure why, but it sounds similar. A lot of other YouTube demoers as well. After all, if they don’t make it sound good, what’s the point.

That said, this is one of Ola’s least impressive demos, sounds brittle, glassy and 2D.

I don’t think Ola makes everything sound the same, I just don’t think a lot of gear really sounds as different as some of us make it out too. I know I trust Ola because we actually sound similar through the same few amps we both have which I can’t say for some other guys.

Maybe I’m wrong but I expect it to have very little headroom being used as a preamp. It’s a distortion pedal. Imagine running something like a metalzone directly into a poweramp. It will work but not really ideal IMO.

Maybe. I wonder how this would sound into a KSR PA 50?

I'm pretty top heavy with Fortin crap... it does sound decent though... ?

i would take the metalzone, its a great boost as well.

Ok, that’s a pretty far out there opinion. I would take a barebones TS9 over a metal one any day of the week as a boost.

On Ola: he does some good demos, but like a few other YouTubers, everything sounds good when he demos it. And that’s the fallacy right there.

Don’t want to step on any toes, but I’ve seen him plug stuff from Mooer, among other brands, that sound sick. But I doubt that would translate for many other players, just seems more hype than actual substance.

But what is changing then? If Ola demos something and it sounds sick but doesn't translate to other players then I'm not so sure it's the gear's fault. I've seen him demo stuff and he clearly doesn't like it or it doesn't sound great but hey, it might work for the next guy. We all like different shit and hear things different so that where we need to be careful on buying into the hype of all of these YouTube guys. I personally prefer Ola's demos because we tend to gravitate towards a similar tone and tbh he's been more right than wrong when I buy stuff based off of his demos.

Yeah, honestly anymore most gear works. It does the job intended and sounds good. I mean I dig my amp collection as much as the next guy, but if I ever got in a tight spot financially I could get a used xxx, or 5150 and a cab w v30s and it would get me by for any show or recording I needed to do. And 95 percent of people who heard it wouldn’t be able to tell a difference between that and a real expensive set up. If anyone is struggling to get stuff to sounds good nowadays probably their fault and no one else’s.

i dont think its a far out there opinion at all, the metalzone is a great pedal. i dont think eveything he demos sounds great, and neither does he if you watch enough of his videos. im not sure why you would just assume Mooer or other companies cant possibly sound good? theres no magic "make sound good" button like some guys seem to believe when it comes to guitar recording.

the wait is long but the good thing about ordering a Larry is not entertaining Fortin ideas

Find out early next week. I’ll use my PA-50 for my demo vid. And a PS100 to see if that does anything tonally…

This has an additional internal dip switch for that purpose like the new KH/DK Gary Holt pedal. I’ve got some “preamp” pedals that just fucking blow with a power amp because like you say, they’re not really designed for that use and more of a distortion pedal.

But then you look at the Highwind Fire & Sword, Lichtlærm Gahenna and Klirrton Oh My Goat and Grindstein, They all have the headroom to compete with a real amp.

The ones I’ve had the biggest issue with were the Revv ones with a power amp, which surprised me.

It maybe great but I don't base anything on Ola demos. He sounds the same on everything
I’m convinced at this point he uses some post processing on his demos. Something on his mix bus.

To do what though exactly?? Plug-ins are no different than anything else, what sounds good for one piece of gear isn’t necessarily work on the next. I can guarantee Ola or any of these guys arent paying their video editors to sit there and be audio engineers as well mixing every part of every video. most of his demos hes goes through a bunch of different mics and then room mics and whatever else to make sure you get the right idea like this one

I think this about Ola (and this goes for me as well) that he dials in things a certain way and you have his hands, his guitars, and often his cabs. I'm the same way. I get MY sound on anything it's just a matter of how long it takes me to get there. I could play a hot rodded Marshall, a 5150, a Mesa Mark, KSR whatever and someone listening, even guitarist, won't be able to tell the difference.

I just ordered an FM3 and my first thought was I need another PA50. I had a Powerstation and a PA50 at the same time. 9 times out of 10 I preferred the PA50. It's just awesome. They fryette would hold its own but the KSR is just more flexible and easier to dual in.

To improve the sound. In other words I don’t think it’s totally raw audio, I think he masters it on the mix bus before he posts his clips. They always sound great but they sound polished to me.

We all dial in amps in and get our sound that’s very close . The different amps we use just gives our tone a different harmonic richness. That’s what I hear
