Find out early next week. I’ll use my PA-50 for my demo vid. And a PS100 to see if that does anything tonally…

This has an additional internal dip switch for that purpose like the new KH/DK Gary Holt pedal. I’ve got some “preamp” pedals that just fucking blow with a power amp because like you say, they’re not really designed for that use and more of a distortion pedal.

But then you look at the Highwind Fire & Sword, Lichtlærm Gahenna and Klirrton Oh My Goat and Grindstein, They all have the headroom to compete with a real amp.

The ones I’ve had the biggest issue with were the Revv ones with a power amp, which surprised me.

Curious on your opinion! I also thought that the Rev G3 pedal sounded like crap. However, the thrasher pedal through the PA 50 was awesome!

I just ordered an FM3 and my first thought was I need another PA50. I had a Powerstation and a PA50 at the same time. 9 times out of 10 I preferred the PA50. It's just awesome. They fryette would hold its own but the KSR is just more flexible and easier to dual in.
I'm really considering a PA50 to use with my newly acquired SYN-1 with SLO and Deliverance modules.

The powerstation is a nice piece of equipment. Even with the price increase its a lot of functionality for the price. Having said that the PA50 sounds thicker or fuller. It's also much easier to move.

You can run most preamp pedals directly into an interface and put an IR on it for really good tones. So a loadbox isn't necessary. Just depends on your application

The plus about the Powerstation is having the loadbox side of things if you have amps too.
Sure. I’ve owned every iteration since the PS was released. Great piece of gear.

Yeah it does just sound better overall. I don’t use the PS100 nearly as much these days.

That was my experience. As much as I loved the PS2 the PA50 turned it into an attenuator and loadbox only.

I've listened to Ola's clip a few times. It has some cool tones. Honestly, I'd like to try one in front of my Strategy 400 power amp. It could be cool... I'd have to borrow one as I refuse to pay $300. Buying used is my way. lol

Yeah, I’d say those tones are in the “if I find one used for $140 maybe I’d give it a shot” category

Awesome, I love my KSR PA50. I have the FM3 and an FM9, They sound amazing through that power amp. Quick tip try the Fractal with the power amp simulation on and off. I actually prefer it with Poweramp on even going through the PA50. So my setup is the Fractal into the PA50 out to a 4x12 guitar cab. Sounds very much like a 100w tube amp, tons of headroom, I use that setup with my band now and it has no prob keeping up with the other guitar players 6505+.

I grabbed one just to try out on the channel, as I am not normally a fan of Fortin stuff. It came in today, and while It's not my favorite distortion/preamp pedal (tie between the BE-OD Deluxe and SLO pedals) it's honestly EXTREMELY impressive.

It's very much got the Fortin mid thing going on, as well as the somewhat dry gain structure, which would be my 2 drawbacks for it. The positives though - INCREDIBLY tight and percussive. Like, I was blown away by this. Palm mutes just slam when the pedal is dialed in with no flub at all. Not in a cold distortion pedal like way, either. It's very convincingly amp-like, if that amp was a modern design. The gain stays clear no matter how far you have it dialed up, and the note definition is actually pretty crazy. The EQ is extremely sensitive, including the Girth and Grind. I found almost everything sounded best right around noon with slight variations, but if you want to get wild, you've got a massive range of EQ to make yourself sound like ass.

Is it worth $300? Fuck no. I said in my video I thought $225 would be a much more fair price for it. But, it definitely delivers on the Fortin amp-in-a-box experience, if that's what you're after, and does it very well. So, take all that for what it's worth.

How do you use the guitar/hifi switch?

So far I prefer that in the up position (Hifi) ….BUT that’s not to say you won’t like the down position, I like that setting also but it’s very different. I would have to adjust all my amp settings in the Axefx to work with that setting on the KSR. In the guitar position on that switch the tone is darker with more bass/ less high end. But it also has an interesting more tube like sound. You will notice a slight volume drop in that position also. I think if you set it to that position on the KSR you will prob have to turn the poweramp simulation inside the Axefx to off. I personally like to have the poweramp setting in the Axe on for a couple reasons. One is that when I’m playing shows with my band I sometimes run a feed from the Axefx to front of house while also having stage volume through the KSR and 4x12. If I have the poweramp setting set off in the Axefx then my front of house sound won’t be as good.

Edit: I just noticed you are not the guy that was talking about the Axefx but most of my comments still apply. The guitar/hifi switch is useful. Set to hifi you get a more neutral tone from the poweramp, a bit more clarity along with less lowend and more highs. In the guitar setting you get a more colorful tube sound that is darker and a bit thicker.
