I loathe hauling gear these days and have been loving the ax8 and the CLR. I do miss having a bckline cab though. I could use my Splawn 2x12 I assume, but not sure how to power it effectively...and inexpensively

Also, how difficult would it be to set up like that? I mean as far as programming? I already have all my patches and scenes dialed in running mono with cab sims out1 to CLR and out2 to FOH

I'm still a beginner with this thing. I have it to sound great so I haven't messed with it any deeper. Sure miss a back line cabinet though :aww:

You would only need to insert an fx loop before the cab in the chain to use a real amp/cab. Or, you could put your CLR behind you like a cab...just stand it on the little feet and make sure to switch it to BL (backline).
I don't like the CLR as a back line. I'm just wondering what to use to power my 2x12 cab with. Wondering if a cheapo power amp would sound ok or what kind of wattage needed? Idk, maybe I'll just keep things as they are. I'm an idiot with this stuff :aww:

Running an AX8 into a Quilter Tone Block or Mini 101 sounds nice, feels more amp like and not expensive at all.

I'm using the AX8 with a Splawn 2x12. I have a 1U Matrix GT1000 powering it. I paid $499 used, not exactly cheap, but cheaper than a CLR. Another option is an ISP stealth.

Rich,band and rig sounds great.

Thanks again everyone. Played another casino show last night but only about 1200 people. LOL

the reason people liked it that much is cause it's mostly bass/drums piercing through.. the sound of guitar is really subtle to tell whether it sounds good or not :) but I think you have your sound figured out no matter what the video sounded like

If you're going to run an Ax8 or other modeler into a real cab why bother trying to get a neutral sound from a power amp like the Matrix or a Quilter? Is it weight or space why you'd get one? You figure the cab is going to color the tone so anything related to FRFR is out the window at which point I'd rather just get a Tube Poweramp.

I hear that. For me it's definitely weight. Especially on fly gigs. Airlines are pretty much assholes about going over weight. For a weekend show I can take my AX8 and clothes in my "under 50lb" suitcase. No way a tube power amp is coming as well.
Even a matrix is too heavy. Maybe a 7lb Quilter could squeeze in, but I'm more attentive to the FOH sound that ALL the people hear.
Basically I ran a line from my Out2 back to the provided backline. That's how I got my stage monitoring sound. Is it ideal, no....is it exactly what FOH is hearing, no.

It's true, it's a bit of a crap shoot because you can't be sure what you'll get for backline.
It's also true that when I give FOH my Out 1, ANY FOH engineer is ALWAYS getting the same, consistent tone from me. It doesn't change. The only variations are the venue characteristics and the actual PA speakers that will change from place to place, venue to venue.

Getting a consistent tone to FOH is my main goal. YMMV

^^^^ This. At this point in the game as long as I can hear myself to play the right parts I'm good. If it sounds huge and full on stage bonus. I spent years bringing a huge rig to a show only to have the sound guy just tell me to turn it down to the point that it doesn't make a fuck anyway. I just want it to sound good out front. That's really all that matters anyway.

I guess the cool thing is you can run this thing with a tube poweramp on a real 4x12 OR through FRFR wedges OR straight into the house PA OR with a tube poweramp and cab onstage but giving your sound man a direct out from the Ax8.

I just got an AX8 and I'm already so glad I bought it. Solves MANY problems I've been having.

Glad to hear it Danyeo. Yes, the AX8 solves a variety of issues, or maybe not solves as much as gives other options. I am SUPER happy with mine and still getting the hang of it.
I've been AxeFX for a while now and I'm still adjusting to the AX8. However, for fly gigs, it's IDEAL.

I'm sure you will find the ways to works best for you.
Don't forget to share. I enjoy hearing how others use this amazing tool.

I was totally joking. but you fuckers are too tight assed to laugh at the irony.

You just don't get it. No one finds you funny, ...you're fucking stupid. :bleh:

That was great!

I need to get to one of your shows. Hell, I live in West Chester....not too far from Philly.

Good stuff!

Fuck the silly stuff, how bout a huge thumbs up for playing to 10,000 people!

Awesome man!

Sounded better than Bon Jovi to me!

Btw....I just read an old Tim Pierce interview where he said he played all the guitars on "Runaway". I never knew that. Tim was envolved with trying to get Jon Bon Jovi a record deal back in the day.

Runaway was the best solo in a Bon Jovi song. No coincidence Sambora didn't play it.
