Fryette Pittbull Ultralead II

I think the Syn-2 UL module and 2/90/2 sounds great. Might not be 100% spot on if you A/B'd side by side, but I doubt the new ULII monstrosity will sound the same as the original UL either.

I will say my owning the Syn-2 UL and 2/90 will result in the departure of my D60II, having been able to dial them side by side.

I'm not trying to be a dick, man, but if you haven't even tried one before :dunno:

I've known one guy who owned a Fryette UL, but never seen or played one. Same goes for a lot of amps actually: Wizards, Bogners, Driftwoods, Omega Ampworks...

I'm sure your setup sounds great, and I'm honestly sure the new UL will sound great too - but that isn't even remotely what the conversation is about :ROFLMAO:

Ah, I thought all the latest posts were about Steve Fryette being left-leaning/having an untenable forum policy. Based on Page 22, should have checked the previous couple of pages. Pardonnez moi.

On the GP3-2902, totally agree that it probably sounds different from the UL. I usually buy used and this is all I could conjure up. Sounds great though, like really good.

Good vids up of the UL on YT, which I think the do the amp justice, in my defence.

That part is fair enough - you're welcome to buy his stuff if you want to. I (and others) are just saying they wont because of his political beliefs and his insane forum policies. That's a courses-for-horses thing.

The actual meat of the thread is about the weirdness of the decision to make this half-digital rack thing instead of a proper UL head TBH

Yup, had commented on that earlier on too. To paraphrase, I'm too poor but would love to own one if someone is selling one for cheap haha

I remember playing the og ultralead. It had one of the best voicings of any amp, but next to a wizard, it lacked the hugeness and punch.

I always thought it would be smart to try to do what the guys are doing now with negative feedback and phase inverters to give same voicing, but make it thump like the bigboys.

That is why i am so disappointed to see this as the evolution

They don't all sound and feel like an original Ultra Lead as you might think .

I have a Synergy setup with the Fryette 2 90 2 and while the Ultra Lead module is a interesting one in the lineup I don't think it comes close as there is something missing. I figured with the 2 /90/2 I would be there, but it's not exactly the same.
I played on or owned all of them other than the Ultra Lead II.

I agree there is variations. Playing on the 1 watt GPDI-IR is a different experience than the UL head. But the basic voice is the same. The several different UL I played on all sounded slightly different also. The ones I played on back in the 90's are definitely different than ones I played on in the last ten years.

I do think the ULII might be the most versatile amp he has built.

Maybe I will just buy both. A UL head and the ULII. Then I can compare them directly. Probably not.

Politics aside, I think the focus should be on Fryette's track record of great amps. Deliverance, Sig:X, Pitbull, Ultra Lead, Synergy modules. The PS-2 is also a loadbox/reamp box/power amp in a class of its own.

Going beyond that and saying, "I'll never buy a product", is shooting yourself in the foot, I think.

Political views have no bearing on the design or manufacture of an amp.

I think it'll be another well-received product, unless some kind of cancel culture (see how woke this is getting?) convinces Fryette not to make more than a few of these.

And that'll be a huge shame. I've always wanted an Ultra Lead, and am really, extremely happy with the GP3 and 2902 setup I have. I can only imagine how different the OG sounds, since I've never tried one, but there are a few good videos on YT.
Politics aren’t stopping me, bad design choices are.

So, if he brought a non-working prototype to NAMM, he is most likely gauging interest to see if they even move forward with it.

I think it is far too late for that. I think by his interviews at namm he knew how bad the reception was because he was defending his decisions to make itt before anyone said anything rather than just telling them the features.

Like i said earlier in the post, it was weird interviews because if you have something really cool, you are enthusiastic about why it is cool; not telling people why it isnt bad

He said in one of the interviews that they weren't planning on attending NAMM, but they hired a new advertiser who insisted that they go.

He should fire them. I don't feel like it went well at namm

No, he just ran out of time.

It's a shame but not a big deal. In fact gave all of us something to get annoyed about, which is nice.

I think he's wise enough to know that this will be unappealing to many potential customers, and he's being pro-actively defensive.

I actually hope this is a solid device and sells well. Any product that innovates in the tube domain is cool by me, and is way more interesting than the latest modeller that promises to be even more gamechangingly perfect than the Kemper, Axe, NDSP etc.

I know my disgust is coming through in text, but it is just disappointment from his direction that i think is fucking retarded.

I wish him success in this and everything. He is a cool guy, and has been very helpful.

Shit. Maybe this will sound good. But I wouldn't buy some weird shit like that. I would rather go full retard and get a floor unit than some bastardization of a tube and digital.

This seems like some shit ENGL would do

I think it's different for you American folk who have a history with the brand. Fryette is not well-known down under, and even though I've been an amp obsessive for decades I've never owned one.

We had a PS2A for a bit, but sold it after some issues.

I don't think the name is all that well known. Most guitarist I know never heard of it or never seen one. Occasionally I meet someone who has heard of VHT. They stopped using that name January 1 2009.

As a product name, VHT sounds mean and aggressive. Fryette sounds like a feminine hygiene product with wings. And by what I've gathered from this thread, these super absorbent Fryettes can be for men too.
