Fryette Sig:X = One of the best amps ever built. IMHO

Of course! I've had mine for years now and I love it every bit as much as when it first came into my studio.

I would love to own a Fryette some day. Most likely a UL, but they are hard to come by these days.

Tomorrow I'll have all day to give a good run thru. But so far, it kills my Mark V in every way except bouncy Fender and Tweed Cleans.

I really dig that I can get a good mid gain tone that's not limp. The Mark V Crunch is alright, but I thought it lacks some attack. I can get that sound in the X, but I can also get more bite and clarity without going balls out gain.

Don't forget about how dynamic and thick this amp is. It's just so in your face and alive in your hands. The Boogie is way more compressed in comparison. It's really well thought out.

Interesting comment there.
I too find that the Sig:X doesn't do that awesome Fendery cleans, where a Mesa Mark can. The Sig can come reasonably close, but misses that final elusive step.

Another thing is that the boost mode on the clean channel for home-playing gives too much of a volme boost. Not practical.
Other than that, I totally agree that all the low/med gain tones on the Sig:X carry authority and character.

Fryette implies Hiwatt in the manual, so I'm sure that's what he was going for and not so much Fender. Although I can get a really warm tone by cranking the Resonance and running all the switches down. Really tho, it's a super versatile channel that can do overdrive leads too.

I almost see the Sig X as a hybrid of Hiwatt and Mesa Mark.

Don't have mine anymore but it was the 8th sigx built. I had to try different kt88's to really dial it in and ended up using the shuguang kt88 I found it could go louder with these and not get so squishy sounding. Like for High volume palm muting. But I do miss that amp!

What are you playing now?
84' JCM800 50 watt combo.
It has RFT el34's an original mullard in v1 and I run a BE-OD and Mxr carbon copy with it. I play a 82' Ibanez artist through it. I'm a happy camper!

Damn, been a while but i have another Sig X incoming on Monday.

Been what, 12 years since my last one!!!!

The one i had was a VHT. This one Is a Fryette, still have a couple VHT badges, might pop one on it.

Always loved that VHT logo.embers
Man . When these old threads come up I just wonder where all these people are now that once commentated and were members

Yeah, i feel the same, brings back memories¡!!

Well, I'm still around and still am addicted to tube amps 🤣

Life moves fast man. Wahhh

I have had my Sig on the local chopping block for awhile now. I dont gig anymore and no longer need the versatility.

Loved it while i was gigging.
But now it's gotta go.

The economy is shit here in the US so it's a tough sell locally (Phoenix).

I still use my Sig X more than any of my other amps. I bought it new when it came out in early 2008. I currently have 17 amps. 5 of them are Fryette.
