I played on my Sig X yesterday first time in months. It's the amp I have used the most in the last two decades.

Steve not long ago when asked about a Sig X 2 said no. He didn't feel there was much he could change on it. He did ask what would anyone want to change.

Mine was modified by Fryette about 2010. It had the same changes the Deliverance had to the voice around that time and slight change to the bass response. Minor voice changes.
Andy Marshall did a few small changes to it a few years ago. The poweramp behavior is closer to the Deliverance.

A while back one of the Resistors in the Bias Supply started to barbecue and I was able to catch it in the act. I made a thread about it here: https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/threads/the-sig-x-is-down.295982/

I ended up replacing that resistor with a 2 watt where the stock was a 1 watt for more heat handling.. But I also changed the Bias Feed Resistors (R82 and R83) from 200k to 100k. The lower value actually controls the Bias from shifting and keeps things more in line. I discussed this over at TGP where everyone told me to run 100k. It also changes the response of the lowend. The 100k pulls it in a bit so it's not so boomy.

I was using 200k Bias Feeds and it sounded just huge for a 112 Combo. But then BOOM, a Power Tube let go while I was playing and it let off a huge pop thru the speaker and it was lights out. I changed to a 100k, and all has been good. My Deliverance D120 version 1.2 from the same era has 100k's..

You can try it out real easy for yourself and do what I did by getting a pair of 200k's and piggy back each one on top of R82 and R83 in parallel which will = 100k. I wonder if Steve changed them already. I'd check the value first..

I read through the thread and fryette has always responded very quickly to my emails, so the only rational way I can excuse his actions are if neither of you bought the products new. If either of you bought the amps new, then it would guarantee that I never bought an amp from him for sure

It’s cool from an engineering perspective. There’s not even a board, just a bunch of raw components all wired together. Gotta respect that.

That's what point to point (PTP) is. Most people call amps with turret boards PTP. But they aren't. This build is actually point to point.

Sounds like more attention might need to be paid to the tube data sheets? Tubes have a maximum limiting specification for the total resistance on their grid. This includes the sum total of the phase inverter output grid leak (bias feed) resistors, input grid (grid stopper) resistors, and any other resistances there might be in the specific circuit. This is why you might find 150K PI grid leak resistors in Marshalls with 6550s instead of 220K. If that resistance gets too high... no bueno.
