Why? That's not smart business.
Bullshit, check out http://www.red.com/ , we use these cameras on films ALL the time, they are pretty much the standard these days. When they drop a new model, they offer first dibs to current owners, AND they offer a trade back upgrade program, AND they are INSANELY successful. oh and btw the company has a very similar story to that of Fractal, EXCEPT they are really into their customers and keep them happy by not leaving them by the technological roadside.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with your camera. Have they sold thousands of units? I can't imagine Fractal wanting to take possession of all the Ultras and Standards that end users don't want any more.
While you're at it, convince GMC to upgrade my Sierra for me. I want a newer one.

Cool. Plead your case. Personally, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Not a good way to do business. Sorry mate....

They should offer an upgrade for people that just bought Ultra's.
You folks who followed my posts over on the countdown thread now know what I was getting at, right?? Fuckers were dangling carrots to the innocent, and ya, there were people fence sitting, getting mixed messages - oh it's a firmware upgrade, oh it's a footcontroller - and these people buy the thing and next thing you know, for $200 more, you could have had twice the power and all the new upgrades everyone was wanting. THIS is why I was so vehemently PISSED at the "oh mighty" mentality that "god fractal" can do no wrong. Proper business would have been to say there as a new version coming out in Spring 2011 or Summer 2011, no set date, and have said this maybe 3 months ago. Prepare the people. Be transparent. But no, instead, they kept taking orders right up until today (I am sure) and now it's obsolete time for those past the 12 days. Not cool.

Whatever, there's a lot of ways to market a product, the hype this thing got was unprecendented to the best of my recollection - the net was going off the hook. But ya, piss poor.

I guess it goes though, if you're happy with what ya got??? Keep it. Now the question is - where's it made?? China or USofA??

Peace,
V.

Seems like the ones on eBay are still getting a decent amount. Wonder if that'll change once the word spreads. :dunno:

Doesn't Digidesign also have a trade up program? Not sure if they still do but I know a buddy of mine who traded his MBox for a 003 rack via their trade up deal a number of years ago.

I personally don't see why a system like this could be a bad thing, it would potentially keep some used units off the market, all the while making current customers happy. How many potential "upgrade" sales could they see from users who would just stick with their Ultra/Standard otherwise. Time will tell on how low used prices will go but I'm definitely not about to take a beating on selling my Ultra to grab a "II" any time soon.

Well when's the actual availability date? May not even be able to get one for months.

Cliff said 1-2 weeks. Now, how big that first batch is and when the next batch will be ready are the real questions to be addressed.

It would be nice if they would just make enough for stock. The demand is there.

This scenario is the exact reason I haven't picked up a Klon. Though the original Klons will probably not fall as far.

I really hope they make a decent amount. I luckily sold my standard days before this "countdown" business in order to upgrade to the Ultra. Instead, I'll just pick up a II. I need to do so before September when I'll be moving into an apartment and the AFXII will be my only usable amp. The headphone jack will get some good use :D

Yeah. I'll probably get one once the hype dies to try. Thanks for the Klon info as well. I still really want one. :)

Thats pretty cool. I know red camera's from my friend who works in the industry

Won't those Ultra sellers be hacked if something wasn't quite right with the newer units? I know that's pretty far-fetched, though.

12 Ultra's on ebay right now, and reactor rigs.

Saw that

Other than guys who bought VERY recently, and would have waited, I don;t get the hand wringing; looks like the new unit has some pretty cool new features.

As a matter of fact, I may just grab one; even though (gasp) it will be worth less than I paid new if I sell it later :D

If it was just the processing power, I don't think it would matter too much to people. I think it more of the added features that people have been requesting ease or functionality that is creating a shit storm. Doesn't make sense to sell their Reactor kit though. Maybe people are pissed and selling the complete rig.

no ultra or standard with the newer version, which makes sense

i'm curious as to how the older units will get priced in light of this, both new and used, sub 1k standard units...see how it pans out, and of course very interested to hear how it sounds, and what this will entail for firmware and future updates for the older unit seeing as apparently they use different processing/modelling algorithms/capabilities

"First we created our new Virtual Vacuum Tube™ technology. VVT™ is a complete departure from the static waveshaping technology used by other products. It is a digital replica of a vacuum tube complete with time, frequency and level dependencies. Just like a real vacuum tube, our digital replica is truly dynamic and changes with your playing. This creates a level of realism, complexity and response that other products just can't match."

i wonder if it simulates tube failure ;) looking good in any case, glad i held off lol
