LOL, this will make for some fun reading on the forums.

Cue sell off and rush of early adopters...

I'm loving the amount of butt hurt going around over this. For a piece of tech (and it is just a piece of tech after all) to go 5 years with no hardware upgrades is unheard of. Just look at cell phones, computers, ect.. The top of the line item only stays top of the line for a few months to a year at the most. Axe had a run of 5 years with no upgrades. You had to know it was coming soon as it was long overdue. It's not like your Ultra's are suddenly not going to work. If you can't handle a piece of tech becoming obsolete eventually, don't buy it. Yeah, it sucks for all the people that just bought an Ultra, but that's just life and part of buying gadgets.

I'm amazed at people expecting a refund or exchange for their Ultra's now. Do you see Apple exchanging and refunding people when a new iPhone comes out? It just doesn't happen. I know high tech gadgets are pretty new in guitar land, but this is just the way things work. Basically as soon as you by something, it's already obsolete. When you buy a piece of tech, you have do it knowing that a new and improved one could come out at any time. And besides, it's not like this came out of nowhere. A new Axe model has been rumored for many months now.

Daam they been round for 5 years now, times flown by

wait, no it hasn't, i don't remember many people talking about it 5 years ago

only in the last few years if i re-call.

This post does no way mean anything, just a observation :)

12 Ultra's on ebay right now

And a good chunk of them are asking more $$ than a new one. Maybe the whole vintage / relic'ed Fender thing is catching onto electronics now

The first one's for sale are guys who want the new and they are trying to get back their money. Just wait and when the market gets flooded the prices will drop.

I feel the exact same way, well said!

In guitarland we are used to a piece of equipment maintaining its relevancy long after it was purchased. Because the Axe-FX is not thought of as an pre-amp/amp on its own, it becomes a gadget and subject to becoming obsolete as newer gadgets come to market. If the Axe can overcome that perception and be thought of as a piece of rack gear like a JMP1 or similar preamp, it will lose some value as it ages but no more that any piece of music gear. That will still equate to a big price drop on the used market as most used equipment is barely worth 50% of original value.

I think they should have given a signal it was coming...totally not fair to recent ultra buyers. I'm sure anyone paying $2000 would have paid $200 extra for the new model.
They probably had to eat up a bunch of parts/inventory and waited until the time was right.

I just sold an ultra for a nice price so for once I didn't take a beating. One thing I couldn't tell is if the new one is shipping or not. Those in a panic to sell could wind up waiting as was the case with the MFC at first. I wouldn't mind picking up a used standard for a backup rig in a box if the price is right.

The beta testers benefited from firsthand knowledge and could dump their units before the public announcement.

I am laughing my balls off now

If you have one and you are happy with it then why would you be pissed??

Funny shit

So- it's got a headphone out- good.

Does it have 4 or 5 dual function knobs for bass, mids, treble, gain, sag, master etc. ?

You know, a nice easy interface with the excellent tones and efx of the Axe............?

EDIT- Ok I saw the info on the Fractal Site - looks like a MUCH easier interface and there are 4 extra knobs for easy access to on screen parameters.

Also - I'm very interested in this unit because the recording features are much improved and the Speaker Cab Impulses are improved with larger sample sizes !

I like the idea of using guitar tube preamps and maybe padded down amps( with loadbox) into Cab Impulses and EFX for recording etc. and not needing a finicky computer to do it.

This thing may be amazing , because he's improved the S/N Ratio and probably the core tones and EFX as well.

For about 2 grand- just as a great EFX box and Cab Impulse super direct box - it's probably worth it to me , must admit , and the Amp Modeling is just a bonus.

It would be great if someone came out with an EFX box with downloadable IRs for about 800-1000.

I'm fairly interested in seeing if the "the AxeFX has cured my amp gas" folks now have amp gas.

That's what I was thinkin too. But these people on evilbay must be nuts! Their BIN prices on the the Standard and Ultra are close to new prices!

Must be the supply/demand factor, or maybe a lot of people don't realize there's a new Axe yet?

We still don't know what is happening with the Ultra and Standard, they may still be offering them along with the Axe-Fx II.

My buddy just bought an Ultra, but is taking news of the Axe-Fx II well.

Like others, I am hoping I can score a standard for cheap or may just save up for the Axe-Fx II. I am surprised they didn't go with a color screen on the II, but I know those are expensive, so probably wanted to keep the costs down.
