I'll wait a few months to see how much hype surrounds the Axe II. If it is positive then the Standard and Ultra will plummet in price. I will buy a Standard if they hit around $400 to $450. I would feel great about paying that to simply have as a home recording tool.

Don't hold your breath on that one. That's a pretty unrealistic price for a standard anytime soon.

how could i know the difference?
I have a feeling this will be a heavily debated question in the near future.

Sell Mortimer Sell....

This is quite funny. Fractal is not anything like Apple. Apple does offer an upgrade incentive for their iPhones, every year when a new model comes out (which customers know about in advance) you have the option to upgrade for $200 (the price of a new one with a new contract) and add a year to your contract. If you bought the previous model within 30 days of the new one being released it is a free upgrade. Just putting that out there... Also, Best Buy's buy-back program is absolute shit, have fun getting the equivalent of a pawn shop's offer for your stuff. It makes no sense for Fractal to offer any service like this for Standard/Ultra customers that bought recently. Why? So they can have a boatload of outdated units sitting around? I suppose they could sell them as "factory refurbished," but the company is really small and it's more dangerous for them, business-wise, to do that than to just say those users are SOL.

I know someone who ordered an Ultra not but a few days ago (before the announcement of the 2) and G66 told them they had to pay an extra 600 Euro because they do not have any Standards or Ultras in stock and the only units they will be shipping out next will be the AxeFX II. May not be the case for a US distributor though.

you seem savvy enough to grasp the pertinent portion of the apple correlation

and maybe in 27 years (Mac launched in 84 right) and millions of units down the road cliff will adopt the same policy
for as many people that are chapped there are twice as many who are drooling for the II, a huge fan base and pro roster, and a million new guitar players born every minute

from my end of the looking glass he's the little guy with the big brains who flew in the face of convention, and bucked well-established and entrenched competition, and won.

As said, after 5 years of the same hardware for something that is not far off from a computer, it's really not surprising. And while I would be annoyed if I'd just bought one, that's the way it goes with a lot of things, computers, phones, even cars. I'm sure the II is a great piece of gear, as were the Standard and Ultra. I too will keep a close eye on how low the prices go on the standards/ultras, would be a helluva an upgrade from my podxt live I use for direct recording I'm sure. Someone above posted that even if you just bought an ultra, so long as you bought it to make music all's not lost and I agree with that too. I'm pretty sure that while this new one is better that VERY few of the current owners have truly been held back from making music with their Axe products before the release of the II and will continue to not be held back even now with the release of the II. Settle down, ladies :D

Sounds like theirs going to be a spike in the need for...

I can understand why some are irritated about just purchasing an AxeFx only to find out a new one just came out. Here are a few things to think about though....

- It's a business. If they say, "Hey, we have a new product that comes out in 2 months that smokes what we're selling now and it's pretty close in price." Guess what's going to happen? They're going to have 2 months of terrible sales. Yeah that sucks for the person who just bought one, but what business wants to create competition for themselves?
- I don't understand the notion, "They should have given us more warning." Well if they gave everyone a heads up two months ago, there still would be people who just bought an Ultra or Standard getting all pissed off saying "they should have given us more warning".
-And to completely beat a dead horse...it's tech equipment. This is to be expected. I imagine the only reason it hasn't happened sooner is because the Ultra & Std have been ahead of the curve so long. It probably gave Cliff some breathing room to really put out a what will hopefully be a significant upgrade.

DONT PANIC!!!

Everyone will sell thier ultra's and buy the new AXE-II version...

Soon after everyone will say it sucks and that the previous version (aka axe-ultra) was better...

They will as and ponder "Why did Fractal even bother to change anything?" yadda yadda, etc.

People will then realize that they should have kept thier ultra's and will sell off thier new AXE-II's to go back to the no longer made "vintage Ultra versions" and this will drive the prices of the Ultra's to be much more than a brand new AXE-II

Happens every time...

Anyway I totaly don't even want an Axe-Fx because I heard they have a "fixed bias" from the factory and that no one has been able to come up with an "adjustable bias mod" for it as of yet...

G.

Honestly I don't think thats happening at all. It can happen and does happen with tube amps, especially rare amps...

Nobody is going to say that the new computer interface with much more processing power is worse than the one before. It might be the same at least.

I don't know anyone that says that their new computer is worse than one they had a couple of years ago.... Or that the new iphone 4 is worse than the first generation of iphones.

Hell yeah. I didn't want an Axe because it would mean selling my tube amps, but if I could get a Standard for under a grand, I would definitely do it and still keep the amps.
I kind of doubt they'll get that low, but maybe. I think the used standard's pricing will hold up better than the ultras.

We'll see. Someone already said they bought a Standard for $1200, and that was before the announcement. So it could happen.

I know someone who bought one for $850 more than a month ago.

And if all the guys out there who own an Axe-Fx are happy with it they should ignore the hype, don't read into or think you need the Axe-2.  But come one, we ALL know that's not how guitar players think. :D

The diehard tards at the Fractal forum will NEED to upgrade. And that's what I'm counting on!

This and one other board is the only sane discussion I've seen about the Axe.

I agree...... however all the butt hurt posts are pretty entertaining. :D

It might sound a strange thing to say but I wonder if they haven't introduced at too low a price... market-wise.

I just checked the local Craigslist and there is an Ax FX Ultra that just went up that is version 11 with a fan upgrade! $2,000!

Hope this latest Fractal release doesn't make my JTM45 obsolete.

The nice thing about tube amps is that they've been obsolete for 40 years. We have nothing to worry about.
