i saw that line up of the chick correa electric band at the catalina bar and grill many moons ago and hung out with gambale between sets. i told him he and holdsworth were the two best pkayers on the planet and he said holdsorth was his hero too but his music was so uncompromising that it was a bit selfish because he can't or doesn't want to relate to pop music. you want the world to know how genius the guy is but they'll never get to hear his disconnected music until maybe years from now because he is so ahead of his time.

drummer is dave weckl and is my second fave to vinnie colautia.

zachman and i saw gambale the first month he came to the states (85) playing a random gig at my colege in fullerton with jeff berlin band and were like "who the crap is this guy and how is he sweeping like that!!??"
played a pink strat and boogie combo.
we also saw scott henderson with john luc ponty a few weeks later. across the street from my dorm and back then he was playing like holdsworth.

amazing times and so cal was the place to be to see heroes up close rewriting the rules.
I saw Frank with Berlin in 85 too. None of us had a clue who he was, but he blew us away! Incredible show. I think Steve Smith played drums if i recall?

i don't remember ss playing drums w/berlin but years later zach and i saw gambale with vital information front and center at catalina bar with chick correa sitting behind us in the audience, and ss was crushing and gambale was on another level.
he even thamked us after the set for cheering so much and making it fun for the band! yeah we tied one on that evening..

Awesome! We are both fortunate to have seen these shows when the guitar community was so strong and the players were just off the hook. Not that there isnt still talent out there. It was different when you had to get in the car and drive and see a show live and you couldnt just dial it up on youtube and watch it in your chair. I sound like an old guy...
