I keep coming back to Marshalls or Marshall based amps.

1) I prefer Gibson Classic Les Pauls over a Standard LP neck
2) I am breaking down and liking the idea of an Axe-fx Ultra for effects
3) I like the tone of my Fender Standard Strat with a Maple neck over my USA Deluxe with ebony neck
4) My Bogner 20th A XTC "IS" my tone
5) I cant stand PRS pickups or the rotary pickup selector and only like the Wide Thin neck
6) Since selling all my Egnater Module stuff I spend more time playing and no time tweaking
7) I will always have a Rack set up. Have since the late 80's and just cant get away from them, But luv My amp heads also.
8) I have a hard time flipping gear and just keep it and save for more gear.
9)I have more amps than cabinets
10) Dan the Mailman will always have another trade deal in the works before he ever receives his "this is the greatest amp ever"

that a $300 Marshall 2x12 cab sounds like a $300 cab. Like crap! Took it back immeadiately.

-I adore my Mk V. I know there are many great amps out there, but another amp would probably be one of the last pieces of the gear puzzle for me. I've been more than happy with it since I bought it. My wallet is happy that I've come to this conclusion 
-the more you practice, the less gain you need. Or, practicing clean will benefit you more than practicing with a lot of gain (this isn't really a new revelation).

Thicker strings 10s = tendonitis

I've realized I need to work on technique more than gear hogging, so I've sold all my equipment that isn't used on stage for my grind band, and I'm going to get an Axe FX and some home studio equipment for bedroom practice instead of having amps around that don't get the attention they deserve.

Life is FULL of moments requiring compromises, as are those times when deciding whether to take a small rig, or a large one.

It starts with the core tone.
There isn't any one amp that does it all.

1. While I'm the happiest I've been with my tone in quite a while, I'll probably sell 2/3 of my gear to try other stuff only to probably buy back what I already have.

1. Tone starts in the fingers. If you have shitty touch, no piece of gear can correct that. You can call it technique instead of tone, but it doesn't matter: crap touch = crap tone. I've heard enough scary good guys sound righteous on crap gear and complete noobs on $$$$$ rigs sound like crap to be convinced otherwise. Of course the same player may sound a little better with better gear but I think Ed DeGenaro used to have something like a "crap player with $$$ gear is the same as an ugly woman covered in $$$ makeup: it ain't gonna be pretty" in his sig and definitely agree.
2. Record yourself. That's more or less what you sound like and if you don't like how that sounds it's your fault.
3. This was touched on by someone else, but if you don't like what your tone sounds like with your ears at speaker level, nor will the mic. If you think your tone sounds awesome when you're off to the side or standing right in front of your cab with your ears way higher than speaker level, your tone is in all likelihood murderously bright and sounds like crap.
4. Overall band mix > than you getting your tone, so learn to dial your tone in so that it doesn't step on your bass player or drummer's kick and if you need to turn up to the point where you're vocalist is complaining for you to get "your" tone, you need to stfu and turn it down or the band needs to fire you.
I've got lots of gear preferences, but they're subjective and based on what I want to hear and how I play to some extent. There are lots and lots of paths to getting "good" tone if you know what you're doing IMO, and what works for one person may not work at all for someone else.

1. Charvel is the best guitars FOR ME. Period. No matter what else I try, they are what I keep coming back to. When God needs an 80's rocker guitar, he reaches for a Charvel, and is amazed that someone could create a better neck than He could.
2. Tube amps are not for me. Modelers are. So suck it.
3. Jerry Cantrell can take his place next to Lemmy in the hall of Rock Gods. He is proof that complicated does not = better. Warren DeMartini shall rule over them all however. Warren for the 80's, Jerry for the 90's, and Lemmy...just cuz he's f'in Lemmy.
4. I like JB's. No matter what they are in.
5. This has been the most expensive summer of my life in terms of guitars, and when I present my next catch next Wednesday (I hope), it will really have spun out of control.
6. Buying guitars is FAR LESS HASSLE than building them.
7. I still love the Beatles.

9. My ears like heavy strings, My "amps" like heavy strings. My fingers, however, do not.
10. Even if you don't use them, Floyded guitar feel & sound better...to me. Vintage trems blow. But I'm keeping my Charvel Star anyway.

1. The less time I spend on this forum, the more time I spend rockin' my gear and really starting to see growth in my playing and style.
2. Although new heads (amps) are always of interest to me, each and every time I play one of the three amps I currently have, my thoughts of buying anew go to zilch.
3. My most inspirational players and mentors don't f*ck around on forums, they eat, sleep, think, dream and breath "guitar".
4. Pedals are small cures for bigger GAS problems, and at the end of the day, pure GTR > CABLE > AMP tone is my fave.
5. I play better after playing for an hour....and even better after playing for 2 hours.
6. Regardless of the money I make, I'm not really tempted to add anything to my arsenal...anything more than 1 guitar and 1 amp is actually more than I need.
