Had a homie hit me up a couple days ago to see if I was interested in goin see Soylent Green in New Orleans


I've already seen them live a few times in the past and they were really good but it's not like I jam them all the time or anything.....certainly not enough to drive 6 hours round trip to see them again.


At this point I'm mostly only interested in seeing bands/artists I LOVE that I've never gotten the chance to see before (which by now is a pretty tiny list)

Stadium shows and arena shows in general will be extinct if the landscape doesn't change - I'll be fine, as the underground is doing fine (as it always is)

This is pretty much where I'm at. Most of the bands I wanted to see live I've either already seen them enough times or they're dead. So my must see list is pretty short these days.

I saw almost all the bands that are nostalgia touring when they were in their 20’s or 30’s. I’m not tarnishing those wonderful memories seeing 1 or 2 original members who are my age or older with that one guitar player who is 22..probably their son or nephew.

Edit…plus back then it was loud, intimate, jumping around, cheap drinks, maybe cost 10-30 bucks, no phones, park free down the street. Now it would be moderate, almost conversational volume, band has half the energy, tickets are 150-200 bucks, parking 40-50 bucks and a beer is the price of what the tickets were the first time you saw them.

I live in the sticks. So to see anyone decent it’s probably a 2 hour drive. I’m probably gonna take a friend or wife and we’re not gonna have drinks and drive so there’s the hotel and whatnot

I love live music but it’s such a huge expense. It’s fine for bands you really, really like but no way I’m gonna drop close to $1000 or more to go see someone new or that I just kinda like.

And that sucks because it’s probably keeping a lot of good bands from breaking. More bands would get exposure being great live acts if you could check them out without spending the equivalent of a small vacation.

im the same way, my friends still bug me all the time to go to shows big and small, and i just have no interest. i did that 6 hour round trip multiple times a week back in my heyday all through my 20's, I just dont have the energy anymore. Luckily my area has a few great 500-1000 capacity clubs and the big amphitheater, thats about as far as im gonna travel these days.

I'd rather get paid to play than pay to watch so I've not gone to a lot of shows in the last 20 years. Most of the stuff I like is club level artists anyways which can be seen for free or $5-20 cover charge. Tbh I'd rather catch a good jazz or blues show than most of what makes up the touring bands but I never do that either cause I gig most/many weekends.

I'm pretty much a small show guy anymore. I'll go to a larger venue if the price is fair but it's not my first choice. I've never been attracted to the stadium shows. But regardless of venue size, if ticket prices are ridiculous, I'm out.
