George Lynch's New Signature Amp

It looks like an evil robot. What is going on with Randall's designs and Lynch signing off on them? So they have a great R & D now with Fortin working behind the scenes but they are ruining it with lame devil skulls and evil robots. What is so hard about putting out a classy design? I have the first generation lynch box / RM100 put out by Randall. Looks cool in gator skin and the brahma module has no problem going toe to toe with a good plexi or JCM800. Lacks a bit of punch compared to the old trannies in those amps but tone wise, it can hang no problem. The LB103 was based around the judge module which yes, was Friedman designed but it sounds thin and sharp in the highs to me. That was the big fail there. Hopefully this one will be designed around the brahma with an extra gain stage for a boost. Lynch himself said the brahma was "so close" to his plexi that in an A/B test, he couldn't tell which was which... yeah i know, most likely bull$hit but it is a fine sounding amp. This one already needs a facelift though... they should have gone with a skulls desert theme, not something that looks like it could have been a back drop for Judas Priest on the Defenders of the Faith tour.

Yeah, I wouldn't go as far as saying he's washed up. What does that mean anyways? Does it mean he's not on the radio? Dokken hasn't been in rotation for at least 20 years. Besides, a good career only lasts about 10 years until the next trend comes around, and the public turns on you..

Fact is that he has been making records, and he's still a name that's getting the endorsements. No keyboard typing dick on here has the cred that he has.

I can't believe this guy is getting any kind of signature gear these days, he hasn't done anything notable in 30 years and is well known for not playing 98.3% of the signature stuff that he does have.

Agreed, these old guys have to step aside for what's hot now

I agree and he's not the only one by far. Loads of washed up guys that still have signature guitars / amps etc. Doesn't Steve Stevens have a signature Friedman amp? What's he done... pretty much ever? Sure he's a great player but I think it has to do with guys like Lynch, Stevens and many others being able to design/help to design products that people like and will buy because they look/sound great.

There was an old washed-up guy named Les Paul that had a signature model. You may have heard of him?

I can't believe you actually wonder what Steve Stevens has done. Possibly one of the dumbest things I read on a forum today, and that is really saying something.

I am not looking to start anything. I am more than aware of Steve Stevens having played and written for guys like Billy Idol and Vince Neil in addition to some solo albums and work Terry Bozzio but in the past 20 years what has he done that has sold records or made him a face for a product. I was not disrespecting the man's work I was simply saying that while he, Lynch and other players have been out of the limelight a while they have signature gear because they are talented at helping with the creation of good sounding and thus good selling products.

I think its the multiple themes that don't work.

The Black Snakeskin Alone would have been cool but the metal over the snakeskin and a glowing holograph emblem just is a lil over the top.
pick one you want a glowing emblem use all black tolex
Want metal ,make the whole front panel metal and use simple tolex

just my opinion

I guess since you put it that way, there is always the HellFail amp.

I like that as much as many other new amps out there

I loved Lynch growing up, an amazing talent...but his recent stuff sucks. His spot on That Metal Show was laughable. God awful. How far the mighty have fallen...AND TURN OFF THE FUCKING PHASE 90 !

I don't love everything he's put out, as far as newer material, but that can be said about 75% of veteran artists. They almost NEVER can live up to their greatest material, for many reasons. They were young, hungry, had major label money and backing, the climate and era was different, things were fresher for them, etc.

Also, and maybe even more importantly, WE were young and fresh (well, some of us)! Hearing George in 1986 vs. hearing him in 2014, after 30 years of influence has trickled down into the next generation of players....it's just different. It's like, we take for granted the innovations of yesterday, because they're commonplace.

You really can't judge Lynch on one subpar tv performance, either. He's still a smoking player, and there are plenty of clips to prove it (try the recent Lynch Mob thread for examples....he's ON FIRE for some of those, as good as ever).

This has nothing to do with the amp...sorry. :)

I'm judging him on everything he's done since the Dokken reunion in the 90's...it's all shitty. There were good moments on Dysfunctional, but Shadowlife, Smoke This, REVOLUTION, Lynch/Pilson, Souls of We, etc...SHIT.

from the looks of Mike Fortin's FB posts the Headhunter looked very much like some type of modded marshall style amp. so if Lynch has gravitated back towards soldano/friedman stuff in his rig - I'd bet $ that if Fortin designed it, it will sound good.

on the other hand - the styling doesn't do it for me, rather see more vintage look

I am and have been. A big Lynch fan for close to 30 years. I understand a lot of people may not like his newer stuff, but I appreciate that he has evolved. He puts out what he wants to put out and I respect that. As far as live, he's a very not/cold live player. When he is in the zone you can't touch him, but when he's off, it can be bad. All that said, in my opinion, he's an amazing talent that continues to put out great music.

I wonder if this was the prototype that he was messing with at Matt's Music before his clinic a couple years ago?

Yeah, I like that he follows his muse and that he really does enjoy creating and improvising in the moment, instead of just note-for-note copying his own solos. The highs are higher for players like that, and conversely, the lows can be lower. I'll take the risk, though.

Follows his muse ??? He follows whatever trend is going on that he thinks he can piggy back onto...Shadowlife was grunge, Smoke This was rap rock, RE-volution was Nu Metal... he has ZERO conviction as an artist. I don't expect him to do ULAK or any of his old stuff ever again, but he could put out quality music like his solo album and I'd be a happy camper...I even like the Mandy Lion track.

You ever stop to consider maybe he is trying to pay the bills and make a living as opposed to trying to please guitar playing long time lynch fans "who may or may not be on the internet"

Oh, he doesn't hock enough overpriced gear he doesn't use to make a living ? Have you seen the prices on those guitars he carves and burns from ESP parts ? Mr Scary Guitars ??? Amps, speakers, trippler, guitars, pedals, etc...

Maybe he should get a fucking job then. I'm done with him AND EVH. FLAME ON

If they want to make money in the music business, they need to make music that people want to buy...GL's fan base wants a certain sound that he won't (or can't) give them. Pilson is doing alright...

What i dont get about GL (and a lot of our heroes) is that they deny what made em legends.

I mean, Lynch was never a blues/classical/country guitar player. And he will never be. When he try to go that route he cant compete. Or when he starts doing shit with a lot of effects or playing without a pick.

BUT he can play hard rock like a mofo. He is up there with the best. So why, oh why, all the shitty stuff and the "im a late 60s guitar player"? I can understand the desire to go somewhere else in his artistic career but i also understand that fans think it sounds just bad.

About MORE of his sig gear... Well its pretty clear no one believes that he is actually going to use it. But then again, i have to admit he was loyal to ESP since the beginning.
