Now that being said they aren't amazing or anything, and they are especially bad for high gain

I bought a LP Custom that came stock with Burstbuckers...I could believe how small, plastic-like and tinny they sounded. Want a bright, lean and mean humbucker for your Gibson? Duncan Custom 100%.

I can't even describe the tone, other than very non-musical, strange, grainy, and just bad. Especially under high gain. To me, they're unusable. Garbage pickup.

Grainy is a very good descriptor. Not a fan either.

That's why DiMarzio created the Super Distortion.

My clownburst LP has a SD in the bridge, and a Super 2 in the neck. Works for me.

If your referring to the "T Style" pickups that come stock in the Gibson 70s Les Paul Custom....They seem to be getting great reviews for rock / hard rock and even classic metal.

throwing it out as an option...try a magnet swap. Relatively easy and cheap, and me and a bandmate played with a few less than awesome pickups that actually made drastic improvements!

My ES Supreme has BB pros. I'm not hating them but might put in Seth Lovers or Alnico II Pros.

But it's a semi hollow so that's a huge PITA.

the bridge pup wasn't a JB

the neck pick up I probably could have lived with ...

I've got four different LP's ......they all have JB's in the bridge now .... in my 70's Custom I went with a Duncan 78 neck

I've got two Standards ... a Tribute and the 70's Custom ... the 70's is just total butter ..... IMO anyway ....

If you mean calibrated T-types then yes, they are excellent for blues too.

I might do that someday. I'd love to have the T-type neck for my Edwards ES and keep the 57 in the bridge....or maybe put the Lollar DB I shouldn't have sold into the bridge.....

I did what turnt into a long thread on them as a ton of people chimed in. If you are looking for T-Type insights it might be worth a look.

Man these are a great set of pickups in a 335 with a Twin for playing the blues. So juicy with the right amount of compression. Never muddy. Plenty of bite but the compression kills any harsh trebles in the highs for the most part. Clarity in the neck blows the '57 classic away but still fat enough to sound great for chording. If you are just looking for a great blues or classic rock neck pickup it'd be a top choice unless you can't deal with something unpotted due to rig constraints. I spend a lot of time on the neck, even for solos so it's ideal. It's hard to explain in words but man...

I lived with Seths in an Edwards ES for a couple years. Tried to work 'em out over a couple hundred gigs but I ditched them as soon as I could afford it. I thought they might be good in a dark Edwards LP. Not really. The bridge was decent in the neck position but still pretty bright. I think the guys that love them use darker, smaller amps than me.

I love the 490r as much as a '57 classic.....

Gibsons have mostly been my favorite pickups. Even the 498t was pretty sweet in my 333.

Thanks for the link to your thread - I read your opening remarks and look forward to the rest. I haven't commented recently on my trem block thread b/c anything r&d was shot when I threw block saddles & and a whole new wiring scheme into the mix. I mention, only because I came to learn, thanks to the forum, the Norton I have in my strat is, allegedly, uber-similar to the 498T, a pickup which many yrs ago left a pretty big impression. With that info, others mentioned Gibson use of aluminum bridges, and now I'm all about aluminum bridge parts..it delivers IMO. What about a 498T in a LP?
