Glue management for refretting

I'm doing my first refret and I'm curious if I'm missing any good techniques for avoiding getting glue all over the place. A little got onto the fingerboard around the edges of the frets. And in a couple cases, it came out of a fret end on the side of the neck and now I've got to scrape and sand. It'll be doable but it's a lot of extra work.

Are there any good tips and tricks for this? Am I just using too much glue? I'm pressing the fret in, using a whip tip to wick the CA glue in, and then pressing some more.

FWIW: Don't use the thin superglue! I know, you see videos of people using it....... It'll run everywhere you don't want it too and it stains wood / makes a mess. I use super glue gel because you can put right where you want it with a toothpick and it cleans up easier; you can scrape it off as it's less likely to soak into the wood.

I put a small amount on the fret ends and a little dab in the middle, that's it. Any glue showing when dry I just scrape off with a razor blade or small chisel.

I coated the surpinding board surface with a light amount of wax and for good measure still put masking tape on the sides/fret ends to keep from coming out all over the neck . Worked pretty darn well for me.

I did a fretless conversion where I defretted, glued wood in the place of the old frets and then radiused it all down smooth, etc.
