I agree. I use a PR40 with a 57 and it works well.

The EV Cobalt4 is actually a really good mic also and cheap. I prefer it to the 57 alone but they pair really well together. Also would recommend trying an EV RE20.

E906 and 57 are complementary. At 3030 is awesome as well.

Affordable? Sennheiser e609 (another dynamic) or a Fat Head (ribbon)
