And like I have argued from one end of the internet to the other, Randy did not have bad tone for that era as proven by the live clips. His tone was poorly represented on those records by the studios house engineer who was still learning his craft at that point but was all Ozzy could afford. I don't think we can blame that on Randy having bad tone.
And I think Diary sounded pretty cool.

Did you hear the Ozzy Tribute album? Randy sounded huge. So it wasn't Randy per se that sounded crappy in the studio recordings.

Tribute was one of my favorite albums.. so is Randy as a guitar player
I do not care about the studio budget, time or Era it was recorded during or who was the producer, the guitar tone on the studio albums sounds like shit to me...
But it doesnt mean that I do not listen to them..
And judging by the other comments I am not the only one that has that opinion..![]()

Never really liked his tone but he was one of the reason I picked up a guitar along with Clapton.

Blizzard of OZ and Diary sound like they were recorded with a Line 6 spider combo or distortion pedal plugged directly into the board..![]()

Incorrect. Max Norman was a crappy recording engineer in 1981. If you think this was bad tone for 1981, you don't remember 1981. What do you think Ted Templeman could have done with this more accurate representation of Randy's real tone? It would have been SICK! Because live, it was huge.
