MC Angel Dust for a more vintage flair, MC Afwayu for a more modern flair. Both sounded great in my LP.

The Angel Dust sounds mean as hell in my other guitar players LP DC anything but vintage... The Afwayu is kinda flubby on the bottom end IMO.

I had the opposite experience in my LP. I took out the Blister Bucker (now called the Angel Dust, though the magnet is slightly different) and put the Afwayu in. The Afwayu is alot tighter and more aggressive sounding to me.

Dimarzio Norton or Crunch Lab (with solid pole towards bridge) in the bridge
Dimarzio Liquifire or Humbucker from Hell neck

never was a fan of this pickup until i put it on a mahogany guitar, but i highly recommend the seymour duncan JB. if you want a weaker brother the custom custom uses an alnico II magnet instead of an alnico V.

I could be incorrect, but I thought the Custom Custom uses a different wind than the JB.

It's a different wind with an Alnico II magnet. However, it's not too far off of what a tweaked JB would sound like. I feel the Custom series is just a tweaked JB with various magnets to choose from.

+1 for the bare knuckle cold sweat
tried over 16 pickups in my jap les paul copy, and the cold sweat set was easily the winner, although I also loved the holy diver and miracle man set
only moved it out when my main real les paul needed to level up, so I have the cold sweats in it now, replacing a motor city afwayu/2nd degree black belt set and a nailbomb set, and it was a very noticeable improvement for this particular guitar, although the replaced pickups were great too

the riff raff really impressed me as well, including for metal, after years of rocking higher output pups only

what's your guitar?
being mahogany doesn't say much, since the neck woods, construction, top and body thickness can vary a lot

For punchy, versatile and slightly bright in a darker sounding mahogany guitar: BKP Cold Sweat, Motorcity Angel Dust, and Wolfetone TimbreWolf ceramic.

duncan screamin demon. love that filthy lil bastard!
I've never had good luck with that pickup in mahogany/dark sounding guitars...always came off as slightly muddy and undefined. Makes sense when you consider it was designed for Lynch's preference of maple bodied guitars...almost the polar opposite of mahogany.

Ditto, had a Demon in a large body Korina guitar (same tonal characteristics as Mahog) and it was muddy and weak.

I would also say JB or even the Distortion if you like Ceramic magnets.
