Thanks Floyd. Not sure what you mean by the chair rail tho.
The wooden "Half wall" under your shelf. Technically the thinner trim you have started capping it off with is the chair rail. The wallboard itself might be called wainscote. At least that's what we always called it. Though I think wainscote is technically installed vertically.

Gotcha. That was the wife's reclaimed pallet boards. Worked out good for tossing guitar cases and other stuff that would scratch it so we left it. Above it is a cheap-o knock off wainscot/bead board made out of complete fiber crap. It was so cheap I finished that wall off with it and then refused to use any more. I could barely move a sheet around without crushing a corner. I tore down some of what I had installed and did cedar through the rest of the main living area.

That looks great brother. Nice work.

That looks awesome brother. You would make a great trim carpenter.
Man, thanks Floyd! I'm not sure you could pay me enough to go through that twice!! I tend towards perfectionism and wood is anything but a perfect material. Just keeping things running horizontal was a massive headache!

After a decade without a place to set up the music gear I finally finished up all the work on my main living room interior and have this nice corner for music, recording, videos, etc.

I suppose if you gotta buncha spare rooms in your place this aint much to look at but for a guy with 1br+loft its a big deal.

Nice!

Thats way nicer than my setup.

I had a 10x10 mancave with a closet that was nice. A den sorta, with 2 chairs, a TV, my gear, etc.

Then my son was born and I lost it.

Now I have my very own man corner in my bedroom. An open floor plan means its the only place in the house to not annoy.

I got a desk (used for work too)! Lol. My amp is under it, my laptop and other recording on top.

3 wall hangers for guitars on the wall nearby, and a 8 guitar case rack in the closet rounds it out. Sad for sure.

But, my next house is gonna have a baked in mancave and she shed/office.

I'm happy you've decided to share more of yourself VBF

I think that means that you've been here long enough that you can trust us more :dunno:

Neat pad you have there though, love the cabin vibe for sure. Great woodworking as @Floyd Eye mentioned.

Fine, call it a gear rail :D

Hang tough bro. It took me ten years, many cold winters in an uninsulated cabin shell so cold some days I couldn't practice guitar. Last winter was my first fully insulated winter. Prior to getting the shell closed in I lived in a disgusting single wide that had so many pipe leaks in it that it effectively had no running water. I ran a camp hot water heater through a hole in the floor to the tub in the disgusting bathroom, and did dishes on the ground, often in 50 degree weather. I hauled water from the spigot to the house in five gallon buckets so we could flush the toilet. Yeah I could've spent 50-60k on a new double wide....and still been paying for it. Instead I paid as I went and am debt free other than owing my old man a few thousand bucks for some of the cedar inside....

Take good care of your boy, that's more important than any stupid jam space. My son ultimately wired my house and helped me get the roof on it! We all played a part in building this together.

I think that means that you've been here long enough that you can trust us more :dunno:
There are a whole lot of guys here I love and pray for regularly.

Nice work man. It's a great feeling to get stuff set up where you can play it.
Thanks Rackman. It's def a great feeling. I still have some stuff left to finish up inside but I'm on the downhill run now that I don't have scaffolding taking up my living room!!! My dream would be able to construct my own studio and put my son in charge as the engineer but I'd probably be looking at 40-50k plus a year or two of my labor and I could use a garage or carport first to help facilitate it.

stop ignoring the 400 pound gorilla not in the room, yet

Been there done that but moved on about ten years ago. I had a korg era plexi 100 watt modded with 6550's and a 1960ax. That thing was so loud and punchy. Wasn't gonna haul that down to 6th street 250 times though, lol.

Yeah audio engineering/producing is probably my happiest music activity. I just love sitting behind the console/monitor.

I put together a mobile setup plus an additional mixing/mastering rack a few years ago. I've done a couple albums with it. Gospel and country. I want to do a rock production and play on it, but haven't found the right opportunity yet.

All that’s missing is the glow of a modeler in the corner!

Enjoy, brother, small comforts tend to pay off far better than the things we think we should be affording ourselves!

I know little to nothing about it but the kid is an electronics whiz. Wires/fixes industrial control panels for his day gig and is becoming a pretty savvy audio engineer in his free time.

Thanks Drew!!!
