Warmoth. Build what you want.

Agreed.

It's going to run you around $600 raw, and $900-100 finished. But, if set up properly by a good tech, it'll play like a $2000 guitar.

The Squire Customs are the best bang for buck out there if you want to spend the least amount of money. I have one and I play it alot. The guitar just feels good like a much more expensive instrument.

I like the necks on the Baja's but they might be too baseball batish for some. The road worn's are really nice and have a great feel to them. I would choose a road worn over the Baja, but that's just me.

I've got a 2000 American Standard that is just on another level as far as tone goes though. Check them out if you can swing one. If you find one that sings, buy it. If not you can build one cheaper, but even with all the nice parts and woods, it still may not have the mojo. Guitars are weird like that.

Just got back from the local GC. Played a MIM standard, the squire classic thing, and an American standard. No comparison! The American standard had the tone and vibe I had in my head, at least as far as I could tell. Our local GC barely has anything worth playing through. Among the walls of line 6, peavey vypers, solid state vox and fender, I found a nice little egnater tweaker combo to test out. I think I'm sold on the American.

Grab a MIM Tele and slap a Duncan Broadcaster pickup in it and get ready to rock!

If you want to spend extra, the Road Worn Teles are some of the best guitars that Fender is banging out these days.

Stay thirsty my friend.

If you want to go with a Mexican Tele, make sure to find the right one first. No buying sight-unseen!

Words of wisdom. I currently own my 3rd MIM tele. The 1st 2 were AWFUL. After my 2nd I never thought I'd own one again but one day I strolled into guitar center (not planning on buying anything but strings) and saw a used one for $250 so I picked it up and immediately had to buy it. Best playing Tele I've ever touched.

what's your budget?

Really, I'm looking to be into a nice Tele for under $900, once my other guitars sell.

Just don't buy without at least picking up a Squier Classic Vibe series first.
