Yeah, I totally agree with you. When I say it "died", I guess I mean the market, accessibility to the videos, music, etc. Like we lose Headbanger's Ball because some station doesn't think people listen anymore. I actually got into Slipknot because of the changing landscape. I listened to Korn, Static-X and some other bands, but as an 80's hard rock guy I was missing some of the familiarity of metal, etc. When Slipknot came out with the intensity and "don't give a crap" attitude, I was onboard.
A lot of times I think it is about searching for the metal. It is almost like digging thru albums in a store like the good ol' days. Trying to find a diamond in the rough. I do think the evolution is healthy. Things come back around. A band like Powertrip is directly influenced from the early 80s thrash stuff. It is good to hear.
