Not a huge Lynch fan but I suppose I can see why others dig him. I was really hoping for a killer album with that KMX project (I think that’s what it was called) but didn’t dig a single tune.

Wow, that blows my mind. I love that album.

Buckethead’s Coma album is fucking fantastic, I’d recommend that one to anyone who hasn’t dug his stuff. He’s more of a novelty player for me and while I’m not the biggest fan, he’s great to watch live.

I've seen Buckethead's name a few time in this thread, and his music is always instrumental, with some of it more challenging than the rest. That said, he goes from ambient/chill (Electric Tears, Colma), to acoustic (the Landing Beacon), to rock-shred (Hold Me Forever) and funk (Population Overdrive), and out into avant-garde metal. The ones I've mentioned above are my favorites; for easy thrills, look up one of his live Soothsayer video performances via your chosen search engine to get a better taste, never quite the same twice.

I ONLY have 2. Kurt Cobain & Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix i can tolerate/listen to but Nirvana it's just something i turn off the moment i hear it.

Yngwie, I get that he can play fast and shred classical but I dont care. There is nothing inspiring to me about his playing or his character.

The "sweepers". I notice a trend amongst newer bands/players, especially you tubers, where it seems to me that every 3 or 4 beats there is another sweep picked arpeggio.

You tubers with signature guitars. Perhaps I'm wrong here but growing up I seemed to remember thinking that having a signature guitar was reserved for a pretty exclusive club. Plenty of guys had endorsements and even their desired.specs on a guitar but very very few had their name on it. Now anyone with a following gets their name on an axe.

I guess I’ll play.

Shawn Lane
Phil Collen
Steve Stevens
Slash
Devin Townsend

There are more, but these are who comes to mind quickly.

That swell JB does near the end of Cause We've Ended As Lovers gives me goosebumps every time. That's prob my fave JB song.

I think there was some stuff on Flash, the solo in Ambitious is awesome imo. I also like that song he did with Jan Hammer Star Cycle.

I can't understand people not getting Hendrix. I guess if you only play metal or something. His chordal usage is what does it for me. Just tasty. Learned a ton about rhythm playing listening to Hendrix.

^ that's not really the point of the thread though

We all have different tastes which is what makes everything amazing.

Now, if this thread was 'Call out people who don't like the same guitarists as you' then I could understand.

So for the record - who are a few of your favorite guitarist and who are a few you don't like? We promise we won't bash them or you OK?

^ Agree

Regarding Hendrix, I didn't appreciate him until I tried to play his music. His rhythm playing is awesome. But I get it, he was very 'loose' and it doesn't appear he felt precision was as important as other aspects. Or singing in tune.

For me, I can't stand Ted Nugent. The guy needs to learn the difference between pentatonic major and minor!

I can totally see that.

Not much of fan a of his these days (especially) but when I was younger I couldn't get enough of 'Wango zTango' and 'Stranglehold' and 'Cat Scratch' and don't forget...'Wang Dang Sweet Poontang'

Oh the days :aww:

Stranglehold being a favorite. Note: didn't call anyone out and not trying to convince anyone to like him.

You just don't like left handers you bastard....

Jk

Hendrix is one of my favorite guitarists. He incorporated blues and sounds, etc. and was amazing to me. I can see though why people wouldn't take him all in.

The thing I liked about Kurt was the raw energy and I guess the same kind of reason I like Hendrix. The weirdness and the non-standard chords and sounds, etc. For both, I think I am just such a huge fan of their songs.

He was my first guitar hero and first concert (the Double Live Gonzo tour). My fave was always Great White Buffalo.

With Hendrix, it’s more than his playing. It’s his whole vibe. He lived the music. Slept it, ate it, breathed it. It was as much about his philosophical approach to his music and the time period he was in as much, maybe even more, than just his playing.

I like some things Slash has done.

Now Axel Rose...that's a vocalist I just never got. Like nails on a chalkboard to me. If I never hear Sweet Child O Mine again I'll die a happier man.

Boy do I have a story for you man.

I saw Skid Row, Ted Nugent, and KISS in 1999 or 2000 on the "Farewell Tour" (save the jokes). Anyway, Ted put on a damn good show. So he does "Great White Buffalo" and is just jamming out and doing a solo. He is at the edge of the stage towards the end where the seats almost overlooking the stage are. This lady has a stuffed animal white buffalo. She throws it and swear to God, Ted catches the buffalo between his knees and then continues soloing. Everyone lost their minds....
