The butthurt is strong with the Friedman fanbois. How DARE anyone even THINK of cloning HIS circuit??

Damn funny shit here. At least with a few of you. Since as Psychodave said, its not like Friedman hasn't ripped off parts of other circuits himself. And I'm sure he'd even tell you that.

BTW I finally did get a chance to play a 2016 BE at Roseville Mn GC. MUCH better than the other two I tried out. Cool amp.

I dont see how anyone could mistake this product for one of Dave's. He has his own name plastered right across the front of it. If the OP had posted a pic of a Gil Yaron with a Gibson logo, he would be getting mad praise, while moving up the "Board Cred" ladder two rungs at a time. Builds something with his own hands from start to finish, that sounds great, and he gets shit on. That's fucked up.

^^^ I'm only referring to a few people who've made it a mission to defend their Friedman cult membership like its a life long goal. I've said this before, when the 5153 craze hit a few years back I said it was an average amp and I was attacked. I laughed and said it was STILL an average sounding amp. Dave makes good products that people really like and enjoy. And that's a good thing. But cmon, does anyone think this dude in Russia is gonna take away Friedman business?? I don't think so. And it should be thought of as an honor that someone should clone your product.

When Bugera puts out the SE(Stank Eye) in a few years, then Friedman amps can truly say they've MADE it. Lol

You can't criticize too much regarding ripping off Friedman. Anyone remember the Friedman Marsha? Can't say that amp or the current BE is 100% Daves' idea! Dave actually told me in 2010 Marshall gave him two options, change the name Marsha or prepare for a shit storm.

Can't believe all the hate here. This guy hand builds these things in RUSSIA. Try getting a be100 there for a fair price. On top of that, it sounds pretty good too. Speaking from experience, his demos don't do his products justice. I have his x88 clone and it sounds killer.

yea. its sounds fine, but its not an HBE man!! doesnt sound like THAT.

so, good for him for being handy with tools and shit. the cosmetics...now those are a definite rip.

Dang you're harsh! I'm surprised you can speak towards it's sound without having heard it in person. I could take my sm57 down to the local shop, and do a hack/rush job with a be100 recording and it wouldn't sound like "THAT" either. Like I said, his recordings really don't do his product justice.
Also, my guess is that this preamp is around 600USD. The price difference should be considered.

As for the cosmetics ...yea, you're 100% on point there lol.

A direct rip of what? Dave sure as hell didn't invent the gold face plate, or the concept of mini toggle on an amp. It also doesn't look like the trade mark "HBE" belongs to Dave, or Friedman Amplification. I think Dave makes great products. Pretty sure he is capable of speaking for himself as well, when and if he takes offense at something. Maybe you should consider practicing what you preach.

Sounds great, and look fine too. Congrats to the builder and to the owner of this new amp!

IS THIS A "FRIEDMAN" rip or not? YOU TELL ME :)

Most of the Friedman amps that I have heard demo'd usually have the gain pegged so high that it is hard to say what they may be capable of at lower gain settings. The one time I was able to actually play one, was not in a setting that allowed me to explore it fully, or for very long, but yeah, dialed back a bit, I would hope that the Freidman HBE is capable of producing lower gain classic rock tones. The Preamp above sounds like a nice old Plexi to me, but since I haven't played through it, I have no idea if it is capable of Hot rodded Marshall tones out of the box or not.Based on my experience with similar sounding amps, I feel like I could easily drive that pre into modded Marshall territory. No one builder has the market cornered on Marshall, or Hot rodded Marshall tones. I seriously doubt that Dave is worried about this. He has a great business, and reputation, along with great products, and large customer base. I can't imagine the average working class Russian guitarist, being able to afford to have a Friedman amp sent from the states. I'm "Handy with tools and shit". Real fucking handy! Don't know how to build an amp though. Would it kill you to give the guy some credit? After all, the purpose of this bbs is to share useful info on gear. I don't think I am the only one here that found this post useful. If it can be worked out, I may even get one of these, because it sounds great, and would be useful to me.

Sounds equally as bad to me as the Friedmans I have played and hated. Trimming off bass up near 500hz before the preamp removes too much subharmonic for my tastes. Thats the second harmon area for 125hz...

I also agree the HBE is a fizzy mess albeit you may LOVE that fizzy mess, if it suits you go for it.

As for the ethical arguments, the Marshall this is a tweaked copy of is a tweaked copy of a fender.

LOL. So Friedman amps do like like Marshall's? Wasn't there controversy about using the name "Marsha". Talk about rip-offs...

Like shooting fish in a barrel...

Dude if anything Friedman comes up here on Rig Talk, the Friedman Police will be there to defend come hell or high water.

Let's get real technical... Don Barzini came up with the HBE "Hairy Brown Eye" name, not Friedman.

Here is proof.

  Indeed.

I have to say though, that new 2016 BE is worth checking out if a local GC or another store has one. Way better than the 2 older versions I've played.
