Hi gainers that fly under the radar?

Maybe not the highest gain but Orange Rockerverb. I have a 50w MkI and it crushes, especially with volume up, but a very good master and nice, if a little dark, cleans.

Great picks on the Rivera. The Rivera KR7 is great--extremely flexible! I would also suggest Diamond amps as a relatively under the radar but great sounding high gain head.

I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for this, but i'd say the Krank Rev+ is a serious amp. Sort of gets that boosted 5150 tone with more puchier/clearer bass. Voiced very similar to my Uberschall too. Definitely one that flies under most people's radar and as a result can be picked up for a bargain on the used market.

VHT CL-100. Amazing tones and can be had for more than fair $
I also 2nd the Framus Dragon

Egnater Armageddon...Surprising good high gain tones, great cleans...Built in ISP decimator a GREAT feature. Good price.

What about the Carvin X100B? Never actually played one but some recordings I have heard sound amazing. We opened for Stryper twice over the past few years and they used them. Tones were great!

A rather newer one is the ASG Hybris. I played it an NAMM back in January. High gain- held definition and clarity. Brighter than my 5150. It had more upper mids. Great clean channel as well. There is no way you would get lost on the mix with that amp. Phenomenal amp.

It's on my short list of amps to pick up by the end of the year.

+1 on engl blackmore , killer amp

laney maybe? they don't get much attention

I'll say the Bad Cat Lynx. I don't hear much if any talk about those -- I love mine. Great amp.

Hughes & Kettner... Specifically, the Switchblade. I bought one before joining this forum and learning that it is a terrible amplifier and only a Marshall (or Splawn or Mesa or SLO or Friedman or Cameron or <insert amp of the month here>) would do ;)

Everything from chimey cleans to ridiculous gain in a footswitchable 4-channel amp. Solid, dependable workhorse that, if given the chance, will satisfy.

I would love to see some of the really good players on this board record some clips and create a blind test against the names that we all know. I think the results would be interesting. I would do it but:
A) Other than Mesa, I don't have any of the Amp Du Jour's
B) I'm a half-ass rhythm guitar player in a generic cover band

The really good players would sound really good (imo) for the most part unless the gear was purposely dialed in/recorded to intentionally sound "bad".

Some of the brands mentioned aren't so much flying under the radar just not currently trendy on the forums. But I remember some of them being talked about quite a bit in the past and were trendy.
