As long as they don't burn any churches down or eat human brains, satanic lyrics doesn't factor into the music.
No incorrect. You are either listening to Christian music, no religious base, or satanic music. You can't listen to riffs without listening to the lyrics, they go hand in hand.
I'm not going to criticize satanic music that it shouldn't be allowed, because I'm a firm believer of the 1st amendment. But... I can say I think in my opinion it's crappy.
You can listen to the lyrics but do you really care what they say as long as they work? Motley Crue Shout at the Devil anyone? These guys were a long way off from Satanists. So what is King Diamond? He sings about all sorts of stuff... half the time i don't care about marionette doll or old possessed grandma he is singing about. I just can't get enough of Andy Laroque's riffing. Anyway, don't worry, I agree, most devil lyric centric bands suck. I was just protecting the 1st amendment right as you did (and i am not even American)
Can you even understand the lyrics from those bands that sing satanic lyrics? I sure in the hell can't so I enjoy the punishing riffs and the music!! AND ALL HAIL THE KING!!!
You can if you hear it. Like in the movie white men can't jump. "You can't hear Jimi". You have to hear Satan to understand Death Metal lyrics.
That was a joke, but seriously 90% of Death Metal bands do not worship Satan and if you listen you can understand what they are saying.
I've listened to Death Metal since I was 13, for about 20 years now and yes I definitely had to read along with the lyric books to understand wtf they were saying but that was part of the fun and mystery that I liked about it.
These days the metal singers have gotten so good that I truly think anyone could understand it if they listen and actually tried.
They have to be good at it. A perfect example is Randy Blythe with some of the newer Lamb of God, I would be surprised if you could not understand what he is saying. Maybe not every single word but most of it yes.
I think a good comparison would be trying to understand super fast rappers like Twista, Bizzy Bone or Tech 9. At first you may think wtf is this guy even saying but if you actually listen and try, you will understand it.
I also disagree with your "Jorn" post where "people who could actually sing"
Obviously we have opinions. In my opinion those vocals were horrible, just like the same opinion I have for DIO and Maiden. Viking in dispair vocals are horrible to me. Same feelings I have about James Hetfield's vocals. No talent, no beauty just forced and false.
But it takes a skill to do it, just like death metal vocals. Yes there are many bands that are bad at it but there are also many who are amazing at it and Dio/Ozzy/Jimi/Hetfield or none of those other guys could do it I bet you.
