Humbucker Help

A few years ago I had a custom shop Jackson I got on trade. It was extremely bright sounding. I rolled through a few different pickups before trying a set of Warpigs. It made everything work. The piercing treble was gone, there was an aggressive bottom and it was full and angry sounding. But you could still turn down the volume knob and clean it up. I love that pickup.

I have a Skervesen order that I had built that is a 7-string HSS. Maple neck, maple board, thick maple top and basswood wings around a rosewood tone block. So it’s almost all maple and I ordered it with a Nailbomb, it was really bright sounding. A Warpig fixed it and evened it out.

i guess i forgot to mention that i want a Pickup that does everything described in my Opening post but i also want that Pickup to be WARM.

The Dimarzio Tone zone would be my first pick for those requirements.
a extra benefit of the TZ is it sounds excellent in split mode alone or with a single coil in a strat with a 5 way switch.( I know you are only doing a single HB in the strat but i mention this anyway)
in full HB mode It is warm, has a big Bass but also cuts in the mix, great harmonics and sustain and has good punch.

Looks like I'll be buying one of those. I just found a Used one for really cheap.

I think a JB will too bright in a Strat. It was in mine.

Let me know though if you end up getting a TB11 or Alt 8.

I'd be very curious on your findings.

That’sa great choice and I think it will be warmer than the Warpig. And can’t beat the price difference

Is the Tone Zone Tight at all?

Yes but not super tight and compressed like a EMG 81.
it really depends on the height you set it to from the strings because it is very dynamic.
It uses a A5 magnet and has good boosted mids.
not a hollow scooped tone but more boosted.
There is also a "air" version which has less output and softer highs
Best thing is to take a look here,

Will do.

For what you're describing, get an EVH Wolfgang pickup. There are two kinds: one that has a matching neck humbucker and the other that's just the bridge. The one that doesn't have the matching neck pickup is the one, but the other is great also. Other pickups to do what you want are: Dimarzio Mo' Joe or Dimarzio Norton, Seymour Duncan Pegasus, Bareknuckle Black Dog or Crawler. All of the aforementioned have a deep low end, highs that are never shrill, good output, not muddy with distortion, work great in strats.

I am a little confused by the above comment?
thought all bridge WG pu's were all 14K and used the same magnet?
I cannot find any info where there is a "different" wolfgang bridge model?
http://www.evhgear.com/gear/accessories ... and-white/

They have the Same one listed as being available in black or with a chrome cover and the zebra one. but they are all the same model.

OK dude, I should have been more precise but my memory was fuzzy and i did not commit a lot of thought to the nomenclature when I posted that.I think one is called the Frankenstein and the other Wolfgang. If I can remember right, the Frankenstein has an Alnico 5 magnet with 14.4k resistance, and the Wolfgang is Alnico 2 with 10k. It's been a couple of years so I don't even know if EVH makes them anymore. I have a strat with a set of Wolfgangs and another with a Frankenstein so it's possible I might still have the boxes laying around somewhere. If you have trouble finding the info then let me know.
