And just when I was about to start yelling "Mark Day for President!!" Sorry, no vote for you now.

:aww:

Ok, your clip. Cleans could be used on their own without too much, good solid tone. The hi-gain sounds like a close miked hi gain amp...just like it is supposed to. I would have to do some post and mixing to get it the way I personally liked it. By itself it sounds like a hi-gain amp being close miked with a 57 and I just don't like they way that sounds, from anyone, any amp. Give it some verb, double track, block some highs to tame the fizz (maybe different mic placement), hi pass filter so it won't interfere with the kick and bass.

Can I still be President? I can fix health care I'm Canadian dammit. I will even teach Americans that Canadian bacon is something you guys made up. What you call Canadian bacon is that back bacon ham shit, that's not bacon!!!!! Bacon is bacon :)
Why would you do that to us? We don't call eel, American Lobster :)

BTW I know your rig would sound good in a mix. If I stick a 57 in front of my OD100 I hate it too, but like your rig it has potential with proper mic placement, mixing and processing. Just like every great guitar sound we all love...there was more to it than a 57 stuck in front of a speaker...lol.

Mark

How about Vice President under Bachman or Palin? :D

The CCV or Mark have nothing to really prove anyways, people know what the amps sounds like and lots know the feel. Mark was being nice and tried to stop the "where's the clips" drama and well look where that got him.

Here is my 10 minute double tracked total dry using an EMU 1820 and sm57 into Cubase 4, Greg and I worked 10 minutes on mic placement and hit record twice.

Yeah double tracked, I just wanted to join the fun :D

What amp? I liked that. no fizz no buzz. And where can I find this Greg accessory?

Mark

Natas set to a thrash tone

Heavy presence and pre amp grind settings through a Diezel NYC RL and H30.

LolzGreg right here on the boards :)

I am very sure you are the only one who thinks those clips sound dumble-e, and I am also very sure your nickname suits you perfectly

Here are some Carol Ann Triptik prototype clips, first clips on the page, these are 1 track, all dry except clip 3/4 which have a touch of delay so don't count those ;>, Les Paul-sm57-Marshall 4-12 cel 75 or a bog 1-12 cel 80 straight into protools no processing.

http://www.carolannamps.com/sounds.htm

Dumble with a little edge. Very Dumbly, except the last clip......

Have you ever played a real HRM Dumble, or a great HRM clone? Cranked up it sounds VERY much like that, except the last clip, that had a different tone, and more unique. Played The Tucana and OD2 at length, again very Dumbly.

Yup that I really liked. Double tracking makes a HUGe difference and that sounded great to my ears.

Honestly and this is for the CCV as well the Axe 2 why settle for less when trying to put put an amps or modeller's potential and best foot forward? I don't understand why you would put up a clip up that you knew was sub par? That's like me as an animator putting my weakest work on my demo real to show to Pixar.

That said mic'ing amps is fucking hard as hell. That's why I have an AxeFX because it gives my a much more consistent tone that is so close that it's good enough to make up the difference of inconstancy.

And before you guys seeing this as attacking Mark or Brad.... get your gear off your shoulders.

Once again, I put it up against my better judgement because that's what people wanted. It is still up, it's not like a I pulled it off and made it disappear. I'd like to, but it's still there. There was pressure to get it up quickly and make it raw as possible.
I was jet lagged and working all day after no sleep. Bad judgement on my part, simple as that. I never said I was perfect lol.

Mark

Look Mark there is absolutely no reason to make excuses. Seriously..... no reason at all since micing amps is a bitch. You have the balls to throw yourself into the void of the interwebz and so I completely respect that. That brings the good and the bad. I'm a designer who makes "art" for the public. I understand the scrutiny you get on your talent.... I truly do. Even Rogue who you obviously took offense to who put his crit on your clip... didn't slam you despite the mind think of this forum. You are a good player and light years beyond me. I didn't like either clip honestly and that is due to my personal taste. For those who are screaming that Rogue was making a point on the clip to be "in the room" and or "starting shit" is completely full of shit since we all poke fun and say smart ass shit to make a point. Your "post" clip IMHO didn't have the "in the room" feel . That's not slam but IMHO what is as I see and hear it.

Look man you are a great contributor to the online guitar community and are willing to throw yourself out there for good or ill. Just don't take the ill personally.

That sounded great. Is Natas Satan spelled backwards? LOL.

Seriously though that sounded really good!! I have been wanting a CCV for all the ranges of gain and Marshall grind. This Natas however sounds enticing as well. I also know that Fortin is a class act, so that makes it that much better.

i still want to hear one that sounds good, because if the question was directed at me: "Mark have you heard a good close miked dry, raw, no post clip that sounds good?" my answer is NO, I haven't......please someone show me one....anyone??

I want one without a $1000+ ribbon mic, one into a less than $1000 mic pre. Not one with a R121 Ribbon and multiple mics at various distances into Neve strips to analog tape.

Pretty please?

Mark
As I said, I don't keep a list, but when I hear something I know has been untouched, I'll send it to you immediately.
Some fairly nice clips have been posted, so I am sending them to you. :)

Not to get another shit storm started, but there is a rather large range of fucking her...all the way from just starting and getting cock blocked to full blown squirting on the walls. How much does that difference matter? Ask her, she'll tell you.

k..I'll bite...SM 57, presonus mic pre (a king's ransom I paid for it...$50 american), sound card..no delay, no EQ, no nothing..about 9:00 on the master..no boost..granted I know nothing about mic placement..and I can't remember if this was the governor or man o war miced up...doesn't matter cause I don't have them anymore anyway =)

Sounds good Matt, but what was the rush on "Miracle Man"? Did you have a turd caught sideways?

I was young, I needed the money!
erummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..hehe
this clip is six years old...I've slowed up a bit since then ;)

However on their own they sound like a mic in front of a speaker and just like all close mic recordings they sound well kinda dry and fuzzy, to me anyway. No offence guys. This is not your fault, it's just the way raw, dry tracks sound to me. Some folks may really dig that sound but I am amongst those that like to hear some production. If the tracks were in a mix, then different story but all on their own, well it is what it is :) to me anyway and again no offence :)

Mark

Mark, you know I love you man, but I have to ask. Does this mean you don't like a live guitar tone? Just a 57 in front of a cranked amp?

That guitar player starts the opening chords to Back in Black with his Marshall on meltdown and you turn to your buddy and say "DAMN that would sound KICK ASS if it only had some post production on it"! :D

Yeah, I know in a club or theater it has the room sound on it.

This what I prefer by far in a clip. No delaying one side, doubling, or massive amounts of verb and delay...seriously, who needs all of that? I have mixed a quite a few records and I don't do that to any of them. Good ol' double tracking (2 takes panned hard left and right) with a tad bit of eq is all you need for a killer tone. All of this being said, I don't go for the 80s thing which this amp has down cold.

Mark, I preferred the first clip you posted. I am obviously in the minority on that. I don't think you need to make one single excuse for that clip, sounded fine to me.
