Fair point. Post processing would probably make it a better point though.

:D
Good point!

Steve

After reading this thread ,this is the effect that it has had on me lol

A few notes:

Great to see Mark C. Playing.
Great to see Mark D. Take the time to do a clip based on people asking him for something different, but sad to see it get derailed.

Carrry on.....

Might have a tiny bit of reverb and normalizing to get the levels up but that's normally about it.

I wouldn't even label normalizing as actual post-processing, as far as this particular thread goes.
If it changed the sound at all it is post-processing. Normalizing would qualify to me. No one posts raw, "close-mic'd with an SM57" guitar clips without the slightest amount of processing because everyone would hate them because our ears have been conditioned to love the tones of our heroes, which were all processed in one way or another... I'm not talking about huge delays or chorus or flanging (although all those are just as valid) that more drastically alter the sound...

Steve

Exactly!
This is why almost all my clips have to have post. I HATE raw close mic'ed guitar sounds with a passion. They are necessary, but that does not mean I have to like their sound. I don't. I never have and I doubt I ever will.

I also like verb and delay. I like the guitars normalized, blocking eq'ed, and such. That is what creates a good guitar sound to me.

Dang! I have one thing to ask after reading through this thread. Brad, you came back into this industry of your own free will? :hys:

Hey guys,

It's as simple as this either you have the balls to order a CCV or you don't.
Hell, I ordered one when Brad put the first batch up and haven't looked back. In the unlikely event I don't like it it wouldn't be the first time I got a piece of gear and sold it....think that's probably true for most folks on this forum.

Mark's clips are helpful but deep down either you can say yes like several of us have or you can't. It's you're call.

You guys need to get off Brad and Mark's ass over all of this too. If you think Brad's into some ponzi scheme here you're likely wrong. I doubt he will make much/anything from CCV's for quite a while. He's involved because HE LIKES it. Airline tickets/hotels/etc in LA ain't cheap. He'd probably have to sell a few hundred CCV's to recoup the money he spent in the last few months on trips to LA.

And yes when I get the CCV I WILL post some clips from Seitz333's studio. I've been playing a Vox-metal headphone amp while waiting on it and more recently a borrowed Soldano head (thanks Chuck). So there you have it either ball up or shut up. (Barzini reference not intended).

i still want to hear one that sounds good, because if the question was directed at me: "Mark have you heard a good close miked dry, raw, no post clip that sounds good?" my answer is NO, I haven't......please someone show me one....anyone??

I want one without a $1000+ ribbon mic, one into a less than $1000 mic pre. Not one with a R121 Ribbon and multiple mics at various distances into Neve strips to analog tape.

Pretty please?

Mark
Ok I'll bite...because I think an everyday SM57 on a speaker into a cheap preamp with basically no post processing done can sound pretty nice. Could these be polished up...yes. But I've heard worse tone from major money big production releases. ;)

I met you on somebody's forum
You had heard my clips before
I brought you a dry clip of a Cameron
They waited all night on the thread
They probably wouldn't remember
No sauce I would probably regret
Jungle tone in the surf in the pouring rain
Everything's better when wet

Jungle tone it's drivin' me mad
It's makin' me crazy

:D

Mark your clips are always fun, cool and sound great and have great playing, it is VERY hard to do clips and when you do no matter what you will get some people who don't like what you did. Of course those people generally have no recordings of themselves but find it east to critique. Thanks for letting us hear both the Cameron and AX EFX 2 I personally appreciate the efforts.

I liked Mark Day's playing. I think I like the tones on his Suhr 100 watters better.

man, I NEVER have any of these problems when I post a clip!
probably because I haven't posted one in years and in the off chance I do it goes largely ignored...hee heee!!!

but that's not important right now

You should post clips more often Matt. I remember your Quick Rod clips from about 6 years ago. Those were awesome. In fact, I remember your posts from the old days at the Institute of Noise (blast from the past).

you were on ION?!?!? (have we been though this before? It seems vaguely familiar actually..lol)

meh, I'm always thinking of new clips or vids but I really don't have a good recording setup...and I'm lazy...and nobody really seems to give two shits quite frankly..=)
I care...

I love clips!

yeah, people dig clips...just not mine...*sounds of the world's smallest violin playing a hauntingly sad melody in the background*

Your clips sound good, but they don't meet the criteria. One is double tracked mixed with drums, etc, Two is also mixed with drums and reverb, Three sounds like some reverb to me :)

Yes they all sounded decent, liked the first one best and it was double tracked. Post one of the raw single tracks, no drums and no verb..just guitar. That's what I'm saying.

Yes a 57 in front of a speaker can sound decent in a mix if it's done right...but a raw track all on it's own, naked ain't pretty. Otherwise we wouldn't double track and add verb, EQ (or take away or block), compression, etc.

Now lets make sure that I'm clear for everyone on these 3 clips. Really liked the first one, liked the second, 3rd would probably sound great in a mix on it's own it was ok, it sure sounds like this one had reverb or at least alot of the room in the mix as well.

Great clips but certainly not raw dry clips.

Mark
