Well I mean, they wrote a whole song about it.

I eventually came to understand that the free exchange of ideas — even outrageous or offensive ones — is what Internet forums are all about. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, meaning when people say outrageous things, which they will, the best thing to do is to leave their stupidity up there for the whole world to see. It’s sort of ugly, like making sausage, but in my experience it beats the hell out trying to tell other people what they can say and what they can’t.
Yes, there are limits, and every forum has to have rules. But those rules work best when they’re based on giving members the benefit of the doubt and promoting the free exchange of ideas, not attempting to play Reichsführer of the Internet.
I don't disagree with your opinion on the mod leanings there, but it is what it is. It's a big site, lots of traffic, and a lot of work to moderate it. And they moderate it in a way that works for them. The huge number of discussions going on there is testament to the fact that they're not trouncing the free exchange of ideas, even if they come down quick on topics that venture close to the policy (or essentially a guilty until proven innocent assumption on why someone is posting it). That people start threads on other forums to complain about being banned, being mad and lobbing insults, usually reinforces in my mind that the mods made the right call to ditch that person.
I mean, I've been banned from TGP. Saw a guy trying to flip a guitar from $5k on Reverb the week prior to $9k, and simply pointed to the ad and asked if it was the same guitar. In my mind, that's just giving potential buyers more information, and your sale shouldn't rely on keeping buyers uninformed. Anyway, I knew that was pushing it, and I took that ban and did something else for the month.
