I've owned them all, try dining a Friedman and see what happens. I had a Bogner 40w Telos for a bit...was as loud as a Friedman cranked...The Telos wasn't even up all the way.
How was the Telos? I'm curious about it. How would it compare to a Helios or wizard? Or what about compared to the Paul?

I agree that the BE and most other Friedmans are lacking in volume, but not the case with the butterslax. The butterslax is very loud and gets loud fast. It's also more aggressive and less polished sounding than the BE, but I also find most of the diezels also sound too polished/lacking in rawness and a little processed sounding. The VH4 wasn't as much like that though. I'm curious how the Paul or big Maxx would compare

Wonder what circuit was copied for the Butterslax? Naylor?
The Telos was great - a buddy wanted it and I couldn't say no - cash money.
It's one of the best Plexi sounding amps going, vintage tones, not even close to a Wizard amp in feel and direct response.

Not sure. I remember Dave said its actually similar to the jj but I didn't like the jj nearly as much. Did the telos still have a big sound even though it's 40 watts? I remember you said the Paul didn't sound as big with its 45 watts and I don't like when amps sound small in that way

Any amp compared to 100-150w isn't going to sound that big. The Telos and the Paul both are big loud amps for 40-45w. The Telos weighed about 35 lbs, impressive for a smaller sized amp...it's no lunch box. Paul was killer, again I got an offer I couldn't refuse and sold it. I'd gladly take another one.

Wow that's lighter than I expected the Telos to be. I gotta check it out. Still also curious about the Paul. I almost agree 100% about any amp sounding small compared to a 100-150 watt amp, but with one exception: the Divided By 13 RSA 31. I AB'ed it not long ago with a Soldano SLO and 2016 BE and found it to be louder, bigger sounding, and more raw/ballsy as well even though it's rated at only 31 watts. Obviously it's a very different style amp, but it still sounded bigger and, in many ways, also more aggressive

I never liked any of the Friedman stuff... too dark, distant, and the feel just wasn't right. Prices always struck me as insane for what they are. For those sort of tones I stick with my OG Marshall 1967 SLP... it will burry just about anything with the volumes at 12:00. The Friedman stuff always was pure hype, no delivery... IMHO.
