I Love this Video: Kyle Bull's 20 Amps, Same Cab

They sound great to me. I have a quad of them waiting to go into... something. Not sure what yet.

Didn't think id like them at first. Put one in a KSR 2x12 this weekend with a V30 and it sounds massive. In a mix I can see a quad of them getting buried a bit but in the room it was a surprising improvement over the redback.

100% agree. The Granophyre is a whole different amp with the Master high and then use the Level for overall volume. Such a sick amp that I have foolishly sold twice now.
Impressed me. The amp needs a boost and the right pup on the front end and the right cab on the other to get that snarl or you won't hear what it can do.

If I need to jump through that many hoops to get an amp where I want it, then it’s definitely not for me.

Pretty awesome video, need to listen on my monitors for a fair comparison. Currently on my phone so my first listen is meaningless but I like the low end feel on a few of the amps in particular. Bogner, Engl, Revv, maybe 5153. Lets see what it's like on actual speakers and will update.

Edit: yeah, there's actually only 2 or 3 amps that made me say meh, most if not all are acceptable with a few standouts for me.

Really makes me miss my 100CL

Nothing to do with the video but my Granophyre is amazing.

As with many amps, how you set them up matters. Tube type, bias, settings, boost etc.

For modern tone it might be just under the Wizard.

Grano really needs a boost though.

They all sounded good except the Engls and the XXX. The Mesa Mark sounded a bit thin here too, bit that's probably due to him boosting it. They don't sound the best boosted unless you back off the treble control quite a bit.

Boosts, effects, etc., really makes comparisons like this less useful to me.

Knowing if an amp takes boosting well is sufficient, and I doubt that's an issue for most current amp models; i.e., I know I can boost it if I need it.

What I don't know is how the amp sounds by itself, which is most important to me.
Ya, a boost does make amps sound more similar for sure. The rector most likely needs it though.

A Mark IV on lead channel is literally the last amp on the planet that should be boosted.

Thanks for telling me he used a boost before I sat through his dumb humor and stupid faces.

Boost makes it useless to me.

lol I didn't realize how much hate people have for him. My takeaway from the video is that, while yes it's boosted, most people put way too much energy and effort into finding "the one" when 99% of most amps can sound the same. And that sound is absolutely good enough. People in this thread are saying how Amp X sounded so bad or Amp Y sounded so much better than the others. When in reality, they all sounded about the same. Even the XXX, which I hate, if I closed my eyes and randomly clicked somewhere in the video... I'd have no idea what amp it was. Could even be the XXX and I would go... hmmm yeah... sounds good.

His vid about feeding the 5150 pre into other amps for power was interesting. Highly flawed due to depth and resonance controls and lack there of but fun all the same. It sounds pretty amazing going into a KT88 Uber.

What sounds like a small difference in YouTube audio can be massive in person. Everything changes when you’re the one driving

I agree. I think youtube also compresses the shit out of everything, so it is harder to hear the differences...

You could say the same thing about what you hear on a record vs playing an amp in person. Of course it's going to be different. There's no way to 100% accurately record and recreate the exact experience of playing an amp at volume.

That said, I've played a bunch of amps hooked up to the same cab via a head switcher. And had some else randomly switch between amps so I didn't know which was which. After a few minutes, they all start to blend together and sound the same.

I can't stand that childish dude. He can be very rude in the comments section to people having other opinions. I witnessed it and experienced this myself.
I avoid his videos like the plague.
He also made a comment in one of his videos describing a tone as “your racist uncle” tone. So like, he’s saying Uncle Ted is a racist. I realize that won’t bother many folks, but it bothers me.

Obvious libtard and that alone is enough to disregard everything he says.

Is this a Ted Nugent reference or something?
