Quality is a small part of it. The bigger parts are raw material costs, labor costs, and environmental regulations. Much cheaper to make guitars when you can dump the toxic by-products into the street rather than have to pay to dispose of them in an environmentally safe fashion.

I'm definitely not for dumping toxic chemicals in the street but that comment and this one(^^) perfectly illustrate one of the reasons why companies don't want to manufacture in the US; government regulations. EPA, OSHA and whoever the hell regulates freaking wood :lol: :LOL:

It's labor cost. 100?! highly trained Custom shop employees in the US, 1000, lineworkers in Meheeecoo....

I seriously doubt Fender Corp would risk the Meheeeco plant not meeting some US and All Mexican pollution standards. No 12 year olds in unroofed spray booths!. To much at risk for Fender, and the City of Ensenada. I'm sure it's more up to spec than any other enterprise there. That's bad, and dumb business...

Now CHINA, WHOLE nuther set of environmental rules, oversight, and tattle tales..

The spray booth operators there have to be AT LEAST 8 yo.... :aww: :D
 
I'm not sure about the pollution thing being a prominent reason (I'm sure its one of many) but the overall cost of running a business is much less (financially and stressful) outside of the U.S. It's the many small costs that add up when manufacturing in the U.S., including the certifications and licensing to manufacture and physically run and maintain a processing plant; and lets not forget about getting hit from every angle with taxes. Then you have all of the U.S. government employment rules, costs and headache involved with HR. The U.S. government runs companies out of the country by the endless "nickle and diming" as well as inflicting an insurmountable heap of rules and regulations that virtually make it impossible to run a profitable manufacturing business.

Don't be naive and think that you are always getting a far superior product made by far superior craftsman just because it's made in the U.S. and you paid twice as much for it. You paid 100% more so the U.S. government has more to blow on poorly thought out social programs.
 
i read on the Charvel forum that the new Mexcian models will have lower grade parts, such as the fixed bridge on the San Dimas hardtail, no idea if this is true or not, but I know the Japanese SD wilcard I have with the ebony board is killer. If the MIM are the same parts i'll grab the white one too
