I Need A New Bass

I got an opportunity to try out for a progressive melo-death band in the vein of Opeth. They need a bassist pretty bad and I threw my hat in the ring. The main problem is that they play in standard B. I've been having a difficult time with my basses in Standard C, and tuning down from there might be a mess. I would need fatter strings and a setup, but that might involve filing out the nut slots.

What I really need is a new bass. This is a perfect excuse to get a 5 string again. I'm really regretting selling my Euro 5 fretless because I'll never find another one. I could order one from Spector, but that's a lot of money to try out for a band.

What do I do? Tune down and play on floppy strings for a bit to try to get the gig? Get the right strings for my 4 strings and do a proper setup, even though it would widen the nut slots? Buy a cheap 5 string Legend or NS2000/5 to play for a bit? Order my dream bass from Spector in a 5 string? Who knows, I might not even get the gig.

5 strings are sick. I only play 5 (or more!) string basses. I feel as if 4 strings tuned down means I can't as easily play what I like to play. I wish I had a 6 even.

You can't go wrong with the 5. Even if you don't get the gig, you could aways take your 5 and tune it to C standard like your 4 and have the low G, or tune all the strings up to where the 5th is C and your 1st is a G#?
