Plug in...there's your tone...ahhhh.![]()
I know this sounds crazy, but the cheap Haze 40 combo is my tone exactly, it's got that tone I hear in my head, I totally dig it.![]()

I really want to check one of these out sometime. You've had some really nice amps and if this one is turning your crank it would be worth checking out.
With the boost engaged it has that really thick, organic Andy Timmons type of tone, it's really sings. The neck pickup sounds really sweet. It's like a cross between an old Marshall and a Lonestar. I think people are expecting the typical bright Marshall tone, like the more recent Marshalls and are thrown by it. Judging by the reviews at the Gear Page I must be one of the few that got a good one, or maybe I like bad tone.![]()

I have lots of them. PM for details
That's a funny one too, people liked the Alchemist or thought is was the worst amp ever. How can it sound so good and so bad to people.ejecta":od3f1ggv said:Sounds interesting. Yeah I got all kinds of shit for liking the Bogner Alchemist so I must like shitty tone as well.![]()
Dude mass produced tube amps have a much higher rate of getting one biased too cold or with bad tubes or just plain ol' bad amps. Odds are greater in higher numbers. To be honest I have had as much trouble with "boutique" amps as I've had with mass produced amps. Add to that the whole in store tire kicking of said amps at low volumes and just the plain ol' bias against overseas production you can't really go by public opinion. If you try an amp and dig it...then play it and screw the internet crowd.

Reviews are useless eh. I've never bought an amp I didn't play and like first...except for the Bad Cat I bought off ratter, but Steven Wilson uses a Bad Cat and I'm a fan boy. It's my little Steven Wilson amp and I only play Steven Wilson songs on it.![]()

There's something about Bogner where you either love it or you hate it... Was the Alchemist darkish?

I didn't think the Bogner XTC Classic I owned was dark at all. But yeah, it has this voicing that you either love or hate.
I actually liked the 101Bs better oddly enough.ejecta":2nnabo9q said:Vrad":2nnabo9q said:ejecta":2nnabo9q said:Vrad":2nnabo9q said:Randy Van Sykes":2nnabo9q said:That's a funny one too, people liked the Alchemist or thought is was the worst amp ever. Oh I've played some 101b's that were dark sounding but you are right about the Classic.. I had one and it wasnt dark to me at all. IMHO neither are the Alchemists or the new Shivas and XTCs.

The 101b's I liked the most were ones that were later models. The ones that to me were dark were pre 2005.

I used to own a SDII 30 which was great at home and recording, but got drowned out with the band big time, just didn't cut through. Still loved the amp for what it was.
